Autumn. 00:00:05
Welcome to the September. 00:00:06
Library. 00:00:11
Board meeting. 00:00:12
I am going to say just briefly because it is September 11th. 00:00:14
That I'll acknowledge that it's the anniversary of a turning point in our country from my perspective. 00:00:18
And encourage people to. 00:00:25
Keep. 00:00:28
I. 00:00:29
Victims of terrorism. 00:00:30
Across the world in their thoughts today. 00:00:33
Our first item on the agenda is the approval of the agenda and I do have a correction. 00:00:37
In item 6D, the reference should be Carla Nielsen. 00:00:43
Rather than Alicia Perez. 00:00:48
Alicia Perez. 00:00:51
Do I hear any other corrections to the agenda? 00:00:58
Suggestions. 00:01:01
And this is 1 where I do not ask for public comment, correct? 00:01:05
And. 00:01:09
So do I hear a motion to approve the agenda? 00:01:11
Motion to Approve. 00:01:14
So that and 2nd. 00:01:17
Seconded. 00:01:20
All in favor. 00:01:22
Aye. 00:01:24
And none opposed no abstentions so. 00:01:26
The motion is approved unanimously. 00:01:30
Our next agenda item is Commission and staff announcements, so. 00:01:34
Uh, do any of our? 00:01:38
Commission members have an announcement. 00:01:41
Hearing none, I will ask Diana Godwin to make her announcements. Please. 00:01:48
Thank you. 00:01:56
I'd like to give my report to the Library Advisory Board for September. 00:01:58
2023. 00:02:04
Staffing. We have a great team, fully staffed at the moment and everybody's working well. 00:02:07
Very, very happy to have that situation currently. 00:02:14
Our children's programs. Mary has been doing an amazing job. 00:02:18
We have been having many schoolchildren from Robert Down and Forest Grove. 00:02:23
And Monterey Bay Charter School coming into the library. She also has gone to schools to present. 00:02:30
We're doing a lot more this year with homeschoolers. We have a home school book group that meets. 00:02:38
She Mary is going to be doing another one of her farmers market collaborations on September 18th, making cloud dough. That was a 00:02:47
big success earlier in the year. 00:02:52
Mary is out the last part of September. 00:02:58
And we have a new staff member, Michelle Ramos. 00:03:01
Henkel. 00:03:05
Who has some training in story times, preschool teaching, that sort of thing. She will be covering some of Mary's story times. 00:03:06
As well as Lisa Madalena, who? 00:03:14
We are all very familiar with with her work. 00:03:17
The teen programs we have a a new volunteer for teen tech. Claire Qassam. 00:03:21
And Diana and Mary. 00:03:28
Myself and Mary attended. 00:03:31
Pacific Grove Unified School Districts Middle School Wellness Fair, we did that on Saturday that was. 00:03:33
Ohh, wonderful opportunity to share our resources. 00:03:40
There was a manga meet up in September. October brings spooky bingo. 00:03:44
And an origami meet up. 00:03:50
In terms of our gallery, our false series, which is ourselves, we sing. 00:03:53
Will be focusing on poetry, dance and art. 00:03:59
The juried art show will be mounted on October 1st. Opening reception will be October 6th with five events and a closing reception 00:04:04
on January 5th, 2024. 00:04:10
We had Howard Burnham come in on September 8th, just this past Friday, portraying Andrew Carnegie. 00:04:18
He let us know that it is Carnegie, not Carnegie. 00:04:25
With the Scottish, you know, brogue. 00:04:31
He We had a very. 00:04:34
Full House very much enjoyed his presentation and learned a lot about. 00:04:36
Of the man who? 00:04:42
Helped fund. 00:04:44
Our Pacific Grove Library. 00:04:46
The Monterey Bay Poetry Consortium met on September 9th and will be meeting using the library as their venue on the 2nd Saturday. 00:04:48
Of each month through December. 00:04:58
And apparently they had a good crowd there. About 22 people came. 00:05:00
To hear the different poets reading. 00:05:05
In October, we'll have Daniel Summerhill back again as part of our fall series, and in November we'll have Georgina Marie 00:05:10
Guardado. 00:05:14
And. 00:05:19
Others which I will talk about it in in November. 00:05:21
Our youth ambassadors, we have two new library champions, Olivia Engelhorn and Vanessa Rivera. 00:05:24
Looks like we've Varia, but I think it's. 00:05:32
Riviera. 00:05:35
We'll be helping our staff, helping to staff Teen Tech. 00:05:37
They want to help promote library events, the haunted house. 00:05:41
And they also said they'd really love to help us organize the basement. 00:05:45
Which Mary thinks is a wonderful idea. 00:05:50
Our little outreach vehicle, the MOVE vehicle, had. 00:05:53
Not surprisingly, more delays, but it's supposed to be going to sign. Works for the rap. 00:05:58
Tomorrow. 00:06:04
So hopefully, unless we hear otherwise, that is what's going to happen. 00:06:05
The Friends and Foundation have their dine out with friends at Peppers. 00:06:10
On September 27th and Peppers is one of the restaurants that. 00:06:15
Is open all day so you can go for lunch or dinner. It really has always been a wonderful fundraiser for the library. 00:06:19
In October, the fundraiser will be at Ill Vecchio. 00:06:28
Dinner only on October 25th. 00:06:33
I asked the mayor. 00:06:37
For UH. 00:06:39
I wrote a proclamation and asked the mayor if he would give it regarding Banned Book Week, which is October 1st through 7th and. 00:06:40
I have not heard back from him. 00:06:48
And that is all I have for my report. 00:06:52
But I would like to take this opportunity now to introduce you. 00:06:55
To Angela Canales. 00:07:01
Who is our Library Administrative Technician? 00:07:03
She started with the library in November 2020, while we were still. 00:07:07
Closed. 00:07:11
We were just slowly, you know, moving back into the library, getting our systems back together, and she has been. 00:07:13
Invaluable. She is such a creative person, has such a deep skill set. 00:07:21
And it's always a pleasure to work with her. 00:07:27
So Angela's going to tell you a little bit about her? 00:07:31
Job at the library. 00:07:34
Thanks, Angela. 00:07:36
Thank you, Angela. Welcome. 00:07:42
My Are you able to hear me OK? 00:07:46
So as she said, I have a wide range of roles and responsibilities at the library. I'm going to try to keep it short and concise 00:07:50
and kind of give you. 00:07:55
An overview of what the role is. My favorite part of the job is that I get to wear many hats and I get to support all of the staff 00:08:00
and all of the library operations. So it's it's never boring. No two days are ever the same. 00:08:07
I also serve as a liaison between the department and City Hall, so you'll see me here. 00:08:16
Picking up things, dropping things off, and working with finance in different departments. 00:08:21
And for the light needs of the library and serving as the kind of go between. 00:08:27
And an A day may see me, for example, submitting help tickets for IT or facility needs, ordering supplies, updating the website or 00:08:33
adding to social media and many other communication related tasks using specialized software or platforms to complete different 00:08:40
duties. 00:08:48
Collecting or reporting statistical data or special projects. 00:08:56
And all the way to aiding the director with finance, budget and contract matters. So that's kind of a a summary of what I do 00:09:01
there. 00:09:06
Is there anything that I should add to that or? 00:09:12
Any questions? 00:09:15
Thank you. It's very interesting. I had no idea all of the things you were involved in. You said you liked the variety in your 00:09:18
job. Is there any particular part of the job that's your favorite to do? 00:09:22
I like. 00:09:28
You wearing the different hats, so I get to use kind of a creative side in you know creating Flyers or promotional materials or 00:09:29
things like that. I get to use a lot of problem solving skills and and aiding with efficiency and effectiveness and implementing 00:09:36
new systems for gathering statistics for example. 00:09:43
And I get to use a lot of analytical skills too with helping with the finance and using the different softwares and things like 00:09:50
that. So that hence the tech title I guess. Yeah, thank you. 00:09:56
Thank you. 00:10:03
Alright. 00:10:05
Anyone else have questions for Angela? 00:10:08
Hearing none. Thank you so much for coming and spending some time today with us. You're busy. 00:10:12
So next we will get. 00:10:22
The Council liaison announcements please. 00:10:26
Thank you, Board, good to be with you guys today. 00:10:35
So yeah, just some updates. Um, one important update is that the entire City Council will be at the Cal Cities conference at the 00:10:38
end of or I should say the 20th through the 22nd of September. So that council meeting has been cancelled. So the next one will be 00:10:44
on October 4th. So just giving everyone a heads up about that, we'll be learning how to be better officials for our city. So lots 00:10:50
of good training opportunities for us. So at our recent meeting, some of the things we did was address the accessory Dwelling 00:10:57
unit. 00:11:03
Ordinance. So we'll be looking at that and having the zoning text amendments. Those will come back for a second read, I'm guessing 00:11:09
in October. 00:11:12
And we approve the contract with Bob Marine Associates to conduct the interim city manager and city manager recruitment. So that 00:11:16
is well underway. 00:11:20
And part of I guess related to that, we adopted a resolution approving the interim city manager job job description. So we now 00:11:24
have one of those and we have the first reading of the ordinance amending the salary classification for our. 00:11:32
City manager pro tempore, so all of that is well in the works. 00:11:39
We also approve the MU for the general employees who are part of the GA. 00:11:45
We approve the appointment of Natalie Marchenko Freiberger for DUI Task Force and we had two things related to our environmental 00:11:50
goals, which is one of our top goals for the city. One is that we received the Monarch Sanctuary annual report. They had to walk 00:11:58
through slightly before and then presented the report and we gave guidance on how to proceed with that and partner with the NRC. 00:12:06
And then we had a great discussion on the care and management of George Washington Park. So the result of that was we directed 00:12:14
staff to proceed with developing a multi seasonal biological assessment of for all of the zones of the park combined. So looking 00:12:21
at the entire park and how can we make it a really healthy park that we can all enjoy great for our wildlife. 00:12:27
But also great for safety. So related to that, we authorized the maintenance activities consistent with the 1999 George Washington 00:12:34
Park Master Plan. 00:12:39
And so we'll be updating that with all of this new information we get. 00:12:44
And we are well on the way also to doing. 00:12:47
Fire hazard reduction activities so they're out working on the trails this week as we speak and. 00:12:51
We also have a great crew of volunteers that came out of an older NRC committee, so I don't know if you. 00:12:59
Heard about this, but they had a great weed pulling. They got 4 truckloads of weeds pulled up over the weekend that are being 00:13:06
hauled off. The half of them are hauled off and the rest look away this week and they're having another one on September 30th 00:13:12
party doing another section of the park. So we really have dedicated volunteers in our community just like you guys who really 00:13:18
jump in and and make a difference. And so yeah, we're really looking forward to restoring the health and they are also. 00:13:24
Tagging and our watering 400 new seedlings, new pine sprouts that popped up over the season. So we're all very excited about that. 00:13:31
So yeah, just really wanted to get the word out. September 30th of everyone's free, More weeding and just making a George 00:13:37
Washington Park a beautiful place for all of us. And for anyone who is interested, the Draft Cannabis Zoning Ordinance Review 00:13:43
because of time constraints that will actually be heard now at our next meeting in October. 00:13:49
Thank you everyone. Any questions for me? 00:13:56
Any questions? 00:14:00
Hearing none. I appreciate the new chairs. They're wonderful. Everybody loves. 00:14:02
I'm glad you liked them as well. 00:14:09
And thanks to everyone. 00:14:12
Hearing no further questions or comments. 00:14:15
Our next agenda item is item 4. 00:14:18
A general public comment. 00:14:23
Hi Angel Lorenzen Dormer here. 00:14:30
Chair Oliver, I really wish you had called roll because I'm still trying to fit faces and names together because I can't see name 00:14:33
tags and I'm so old that you know, I mean, I know. 00:14:40
Several different boards, so this is. 00:14:48
I wish you had anyway. 00:14:51
Besides that. 00:14:53
In the minutes I usually print out I I get an agenda. I, you know, they send me notification and I. 00:14:56
Print the agenda out, and then I go back and look at the without. 00:15:04
You know the linked items, supposedly. 00:15:09
Umm. 00:15:12
And then I go back. I mean, just like City Council does their agendas and on this one. 00:15:14
Imagine my surprise when 25 pages started. 00:15:20
Printing out because it's a whole different format, format of putting the agenda out because. 00:15:24
Each each agenda item usually has its own little link. 00:15:31
In the agenda so that if you want to see more in what's behind it, you can. 00:15:36
And instead this one just you had to go back and forth. I couldn't print it out right because I cancelled it when it kept 00:15:42
printing. 00:15:45
Umm. 00:15:49
So it would be really nice to have, just like City Council does. 00:15:50
Print the agenda packet Yes or no. You know the packet has the whole thing. The no is just the agenda. 00:15:56
And then the links to the items and that would be very very helpful. 00:16:03
Uh. 00:16:10
Because I'm pretty used to that. 00:16:12
I mean, and it's an efficient way that if you you can only you only have to print out the things that you particularly want to and 00:16:15
they're all linked, so. 00:16:20
I'd appreciate that too. 00:16:25
Thank you very much. 00:16:27
Thank you. 00:16:30
I did skip the roll call and I think it's not totally out of order that I would note at this time that present are Alicia Paris, 00:16:32
Tama Olver and Carla Nielsen. 00:16:37
So next we have item 5, which is approval of the Minutes. 00:16:46
Of the July 10th Library Voice Advisory Board. 00:16:51
Regular meeting. 00:16:54
I'll ask if anyone on the Commission has comments about the Minutes. 00:16:56
I have no comments, yeah. 00:17:04
Hearing none I will. Is there a motion for approval? 00:17:05
I'll move to approve. 00:17:11
That's from Alicia Perez and 2nd. 00:17:12
That's Carla Nielsen and. 00:17:16
All in favor. 00:17:19
Aye. 00:17:21
That's unanimous. 3 approvals, no? 00:17:23
No votes and no abstentions. 00:17:27
Next, we move to our regular agenda. 00:17:33
In unfinished and ongoing business, the first item is non monetary donations. 00:17:35
I am. 00:17:42
Commission. 00:17:44
Member on that committee. 00:17:47
Along with Diana Godwin, we met. 00:17:49
And have a recommendation. 00:17:52
And we will be discussing and approving the next steps for. 00:17:55
That recommendation. 00:18:00
Before we have our discussion, though, I will ask if there is any public comment. 00:18:02
So hearing none. 00:18:16
Um. 00:18:18
No. 00:18:19
I would go ahead. She unmuted me. 00:18:20
And I I wasn't going to say anything, but now I will because. 00:18:23
As far as non money monetary donations. 00:18:27
When? 00:18:31
I thought that would be a wonderful thing. I wasn't just talking about another award. 00:18:32
That the mayor hands out, I mean, like employee of the month or you donate? I don't know. Anyway, that wasn't quite what I had in 00:18:38
mind, but. 00:18:42
That's OK. Whatever you want. Thank you. 00:18:47
Thank you. 00:18:53
At this point I will open it up to discussion. 00:18:56
Do you think it's worth me running through the presentation? Can can I share my screen? 00:19:00
Sure, share that document to the screen. 00:19:07
Is it possible? 00:19:13
We yeah, we can someone do that for me? I guess that's what I'm. 00:19:15
So it's not possible, OK? 00:19:18
So just to to summarize the. 00:19:20
Brainstorming ideas that we had were. 00:19:25
To. 00:19:29
Have recognition for. 00:19:31
Above and beyond contributions, we call them non monetary recognition because we already have some. 00:19:33
Things in place for recognizing monetary contributions, but the idea is that people. 00:19:40
Who make extraordinary contribution overtime to. 00:19:45
The library might be recognized. 00:19:49
Not just by a certificate. 00:19:52
But by their name permanently installed in a display. 00:19:54
We discussed the nature of displays. I had originally brainstormed A plaque because that's something that. 00:19:59
I'm familiar with. 00:20:05
I worked in other organizations that have plaques that put people's names on them for extraordinary awards they win, like for 00:20:07
example, the Lucille Packard Award at the aquarium. 00:20:13
Umm. 00:20:19
Diana. 00:20:20
Um. 00:20:23
Suggested that plaques are not a good fit for the museum. 00:20:24
But that, uh, another form of display could be created. 00:20:28
And we actually talked about the possibility of putting something on an iPad. 00:20:31
That would be, you know, attractive and available for the public to see. 00:20:36
Uh, and might be able to include more content than just a simple name that you have on a plaque. 00:20:43
We brainstormed 2 categories. One was. 00:20:51
Sort of the equivalent of 10 years of of service, you know, extraordinary service to. 00:20:55
The library and the other was service on the board for a full 12 year term. 00:21:01
I think 12 years on a board as the term limit is extraordinary. 00:21:06
And. 00:21:12
I I have learned, however, that we do not have the city records. I've learned from Sandra Kendall that we don't have the records 00:21:13
to do that historically. 00:21:17
And I don't think it would make sense to do it going forward, kind of what was in my mind. 00:21:22
Is we might find some cool historical information about people who had actually served out their terms on this board. 00:21:27
And wouldn't it be fun to see some of those names along with the possibility of some new? 00:21:33
People receiving recognition, but I. 00:21:39
There are gaps in our records, so that second idea that was brainstormed is probably not practical. 00:21:42
I am however open to other ideas so. 00:21:48
Uh. 00:21:52
At this point I'd like to open it up to discussion and see what people think and if you have some creative ideas. 00:21:53
For expanding these thoughts into. 00:22:00
Into different. 00:22:04
Possibilities I guess. 00:22:07
I'd like the. 00:22:13
And more robust. 00:22:16
The resume of the people who have. 00:22:18
Don't need it. 00:22:21
I think that. 00:22:23
You know, make it more. 00:22:23
Well. 00:22:27
Import important is not the word but you under. 00:22:28
Any other thoughts? 00:22:35
I'd like it too, I. 00:22:38
I saw something we don't have this space for, but I saw something really creative in another setting that used a lot of 00:22:40
volunteers. 00:22:44
Wherefore, they're extraordinary volunteers. So they they let the volunteers build a little diorama. 00:22:48
They're they're that represented their work. 00:22:53
And so, you know, as you go in, you saw this little set of dioramas that they've created. 00:22:57
I think the iPad is really a practical suggestion and I really appreciate it Diana coming up with it. 00:23:03
So, umm. 00:23:09
Given this level of discussion, I'm going, you know, our agenda calls for figuring out the next steps. 00:23:11
I would like to suggest that an appropriate next step. 00:23:18
Is for Diana and me. 00:23:22
To flush this out a little bit more. 00:23:26
Actually draft of. 00:23:30
Uh. 00:23:33
An actual recommendation. You know, nomination form. You know, you get to the next level of details. It sounds like we're ready to 00:23:33
proceed with the next level of details. 00:23:37
And what that iPad might look like. 00:23:42
How people might navigate through it? 00:23:46
And. 00:23:48
So I'll leave that as a suggestion open for discussion. 00:23:50
I don't know that we need a motion, just an agreement to. 00:23:54
To proceed, what do you think? 00:23:59
We're just proceeding to keep looking at to get the next steps. So I'll we'll we'll flesh it out. 00:24:00
And. 00:24:06
So then I will ask a question is there? 00:24:08
A feeling that this needs to come back to the Commission for a final look. 00:24:11
Or or should we just proceed and implement? 00:24:15
The other way, press it again. 00:24:28
Now you're unmute. I would be fine with it being. 00:24:30
Just move on, move on. 00:24:34
See what we spoke about? 00:24:36
The recognition. 00:24:38
Can it come back so we can just see it and sure appreciate. 00:24:43
Your work, Yeah, let's do that. Let's let's bring it back and. 00:24:47
I'm sure we can turn this around by the next meeting because there's not that much more. 00:24:52
To do now that we have the direction. 00:24:57
I I don't mean like it for approval, but just OK as appreciation. 00:25:00
OK, we'll bring it back before we implement. 00:25:04
How's that? 00:25:07
Looks good. 00:25:08
Thank you for your attention. I appreciate it a lot. 00:25:09
And it's kind of fun to do. 00:25:13
So the next. 00:25:17
Item on the agenda. 00:25:20
Item 6B. 00:25:22
Is the library art collection to receive an update on anything that's been done and I'm going to ask for public comment before we 00:25:24
get that update. 00:25:28
So is there a public comment on the? 00:25:33
Umm. 00:25:36
A deaccession of items from the list that was published in the art collection. 00:25:38
No, Tam. I wish I did know something about them, but I don't. 00:25:46
And I wish someone else had stepped forward also. And the other thing is. 00:25:52
Could the commissioner on your left please bring her microphone toward her because I haven't heard a word, she said. 00:25:57
Thank you very much. 00:26:03
Thank you. 00:26:10
Umm. 00:26:11
So, Alicia. 00:26:13
I don't have any update on that one. 00:26:15
When we met last. 00:26:18
I believed we had passed it over back to the library that we had made, the. 00:26:21
Recommendations we had with the. 00:26:26
With the list and. 00:26:28
They were going to. 00:26:31
Do that. 00:26:33
So have we had have if I've misunderstood that? 00:26:34
Have we had anybody come forward with knowledge of any of those items or? 00:26:37
Any Have any decisions been made? 00:26:42
No, I have not seen. 00:26:45
So. 00:26:47
I have the list of the art. 00:26:49
That is up for being deaccessioned. 00:26:51
But I did not see anything from the committee. 00:26:55
Yeah, OK. 00:26:58
So I think the idea here and and correct me if I'm wrong. 00:27:00
Was to. 00:27:04
Get the list in front of the public through this Commission and with the the thought that someone like Inga or other people who've 00:27:07
been around the community for a while might be able to advise us whether. 00:27:13
We should take session or if they're if they knew anything about these items. 00:27:19
So the question I have in my mind is 2 months of that availability to the public. 00:27:25
Through this Commission. 00:27:31
Sufficient. 00:27:32
For us to feel we could just go ahead and the accession those things. 00:27:34
Well, that would, I think, depend on how public this has been. 00:27:39
So. 00:27:44
You know it. The list only went out with the meet. You know, meeting minutes. 00:27:46
Unless the committee itself, you know, had. 00:27:52
Publish something or put it out there. So I think we probably will need a little bit more time to. 00:27:56
Take this list and maybe Angela can put it on our social media. We can make some posters or something and put it up in the 00:28:04
library. Have you seen this? 00:28:09
Wait, Can you identify? Can you identify this poster? 00:28:16
Yeah, I appreciate that. So I'll work with Angela to get that. 00:28:20
More publicized and it was my understanding that once. 00:28:25
That the committee is not making recommendations on how the library D accessions and is that correct? 00:28:30
Right. OK. Thank. I want to make sure I know my. 00:28:37
My role, So I'll work with her to take it that public and then we'll leave it on the agenda. 00:28:40
For next meeting, in case anybody has any additional information about the visas. 00:28:47
Sounds good. 00:28:53
Thank you. 00:28:59
Sounds like a good next step to me. 00:29:01
Next item 6C is goal alignment. 00:29:04
And I'll ask Alicia for for her thoughts about where we stand with that right now. 00:29:09
I don't have anything to present. 00:29:14
To anyone today and I was going to ask if we wanted. 00:29:16
Do you want to keep it on the agenda or? 00:29:20
If I come. 00:29:24
Once I get something together to share. 00:29:26
Then we can put it on the agenda. 00:29:28
That seems to make more sense to me. 00:29:31
I'm fine with, with waiting, waiting to hear from you to add this to a future agenda again, OK? 00:29:33
Yeah, then that's where it stands. 00:29:42
Any concerns about it, Yeah, that's that's perfect for me. I appreciate it. I appreciate your carrying that forward. 00:29:44
Alicia. 00:29:50
And then UH, for Item D outreach, communication and community involvement, there were some notes that were provided with the 00:29:52
agenda. 00:29:56
From. 00:30:00
Carla Nelson. 00:30:03
And Nielsen, thank you and. 00:30:04
I'll ask Carla for an update. 00:30:08
I'm sorry, I need public comment first. 00:30:14
So is there a public comment? 00:30:18
On the notes on No thank you, no thank you, Chair TomTom over. 00:30:23
Thank you. 00:30:28
Sorry, thank you for that, for catching that and. 00:30:30
Hey, thank you. 00:30:39
These past two months I continued my engagement with the libraries offerings like I did. 00:30:42
Several tours of the physical building as well as experimenting with the use of the website. 00:30:47
My goal was to answer the following questions as a user of. 00:30:53
Library service. 00:30:58
Do I feel welcome upon entering the library, our staff members welcoming and eager to help? 00:31:00
Are the displays inviting and helpful for locating items? 00:31:06
Are there brochures, handouts and or posters announcing upcoming events? 00:31:09
How do patrons find out about the existence of a monthly newsletter? 00:31:14
Can I easily navigate the library catalog to find the materials I want by author, title and keyword? 00:31:19
How do I put an item on hold and how long will the wait time be? 00:31:25
Can I pay fines online? 00:31:30
What are the steps needed to set up a Libya account in order to download ebooks and audio books? 00:31:32
So the focus the past two months has been on communication. 00:31:39
And going forward, the committee? 00:31:44
Um, We'll take the compiled information and move to community involvement and outreach. 00:31:47
And before our next meeting, I will make more visits. 00:31:54
Perhaps having unobtrusive conversations with patrons to acquire their feedback as to how the library is meeting their individual 00:31:58
needs. 00:32:01
Um, we are looking at other ways of serving the public regarding their use of the library. 00:32:06
And so far very positive impressions of all of those items. 00:32:14
So I'm looking forward to the fall offerings and special program. 00:32:19
Programs. 00:32:24
Thank you. 00:32:27
Is there any uh, are there any questions or discussion? 00:32:28
In our small group here. 00:32:34
I'm just really impressed with. 00:32:37
That the approach you've taken and. 00:32:40
I was. 00:32:43
Anticipating it would be very positive based on sort of the. 00:32:45
Unscientific. 00:32:51
Uh, impressions I had, but it's nice to have them confirm. 00:32:53
By something systematic, so. 00:32:57
Umm. 00:32:59
I think you've outlined your next step perfectly. 00:33:00
And I would propose that simple. 00:33:04
Update at our. 00:33:07
Regular meetings. 00:33:11
Would be. 00:33:13
Then the right next step. 00:33:14
And as we get our board back to total compliment. 00:33:16
Perhaps someone would like to join you in that work. 00:33:22
Yes, I think definitely I need another, at least one more person because I don't want it to just be a committee of 1 and just one 00:33:25
voice. I mean, the whole thing is outreach, so I want different. 00:33:30
Helpers. 00:33:36
And to get their views to make it a more full report. 00:33:37
Thank you and it occurs to me. 00:33:45
Alicia, as you? 00:33:48
Take the next steps for your. 00:33:50
Goal alignment project. There might be some overlap, yeah. 00:33:53
Yeah. 00:33:58
Yeah. 00:33:59
That would be good. 00:34:00
Um. 00:34:03
So next in new business we. 00:34:05
Uh. 00:34:09
Umm. 00:34:11
Have lost another board member of Harness. Srinivasan has increased responsibilities at work. 00:34:12
And is unable to continue. 00:34:19
Another appointee, Tom Oldham, can't make our meeting time. 00:34:21
So I have put on the agenda the possibility. 00:34:27
Of changing our meeting time. 00:34:30
And the first bit of research, thank you Diana for doing it for me was to figure out when this room. 00:34:33
And IT support were available for. 00:34:40
A late afternoon meeting and there are only two options, the first Tuesday and the second Wednesday. 00:34:44
Those are possibilities that Tom has said would work for him. 00:34:50
So I think it's just to check to see if they would work for all of us, including our council liaison. 00:34:54
Umm. 00:35:01
Diana. 00:35:01
All of the parties. 00:35:03
And if we have a new possibility, I think we can welcome Tom on the board. 00:35:05
If we don't, then we're going to. 00:35:10
Understand that that he is unable because of an obligation he has. 00:35:15
To join our board. 00:35:19
So for the two of you sitting on my left and on my right. 00:35:22
Well, either the first Tuesday or the second Wednesday for say, eight 4:00 meeting work for you. 00:35:26
Only Tuesday would work for me, Only Tuesday for me as well. And I didn't open it up for public comment again. I was doing so 00:35:33
well, so let me open it up for public comment. 00:35:37
And making and making a progress. 00:35:45
We can call it. 00:35:48
Yes, you're doing well chair. However, and as long as it doesn't conflict with any other meetings, anything's fine or should be 00:35:50
fine with the public. I just hate double scheduled meetings that used to happen, thank you very much. 00:35:58
Well, based on the information I got and unless something changed it does not conflict. 00:36:06
And of course we would be meeting not every month, but every other month anyway. 00:36:13
So can we make a decision to? 00:36:17
Move to either the first Tuesday or the second Wednesday. 00:36:20
One thing is. 00:36:26
If it works for me and for the. 00:36:28
See. 00:36:31
Yeah, well, that's what I'm asking. I'm sorry, I didn't ask it very clearly. Let me. Let me ask it a different way. 00:36:32
Who has an objection or is unable to be there the first Tuesday or the second Wednesday? 00:36:38
Wednesdays are very difficult, so Tuesday would be we used to meet. 00:36:46
The Library Advisory Board used to meet on Tuesdays. 00:36:51
We changed it to Monday to be helpful. 00:36:55
I will say there's a slight advantage to making it on the Tuesday. 00:36:58
Because the library is closed on Monday, Diana says that. 00:37:02
A number of the staff aren't available for the presentations that we'd like to receive. 00:37:07
So moving it to the Tuesday has a a small advantage I see. 00:37:12
An indication from our council liaison that the first Tuesday would work. 00:37:17
Well, we we want, we need to make sure it works for you. 00:37:25
And then Carla? 00:37:28
OK, and me too. Tuesday is good. So. 00:37:30
That's actually better for me. 00:37:34
So I will. 00:37:36
Notify all the people I need to that we are moving this meeting to 4:00 PM. 00:37:40
On the 1st Tuesday. 00:37:46
And that. 00:37:48
And the only if there's some glitch that comes up. 00:37:51
In addition to everything we've. 00:37:54
Uh. 00:37:56
Discussed today we will. 00:37:59
But yeah, hold our next meeting on the first Tuesday of. 00:38:02
Of November. 00:38:09
So that would be November 7th, November 7th, our next meeting was scheduled for. 00:38:10
Monday, November 13th. OK, So we're moving it. 00:38:16
To November 7th, November 7th. 00:38:20
If there is a. 00:38:23
We run into some barrier that I'm unaware of at this point. I will let everybody know as promptly as I can and we will continue to 00:38:25
have the meeting on that 13. 00:38:29
And and just work with the organization of the board as a separate problem. But let's be optimistic and say that. 00:38:34
When I get back to Tom. 00:38:42
And get back to the powers that be that the first will move. We'll start to hold our meetings on the 1st Tuesday. 00:38:44
2. 00:38:55
And so. 00:39:00
With nothing remaining on the agenda, I will say that our next meeting is November 13th. 00:39:04
2023. 00:39:10
And here or I'm sorry, November. 00:39:12
Sorry. 00:39:15
November what? We said the 6th. 00:39:16
7th. 00:39:19
2023, That's correct, November 7th, 2023. 00:39:20
And hearing no objection. 00:39:25
We are adjourned. 00:39:28
Oh. 00:39:31
I'm sorry. 00:39:32
Future agenda items. Ohh, I forgot the future agenda items. 00:39:34
Thank you. 00:39:39
Our agenda is not complete. 00:39:40
So, umm. 00:39:42
I will go out to the public for suggestions for future agenda items. 00:39:44
Hearing no comment. 00:39:59
One second. 00:40:01
She's trying to unmute it. 00:40:06
Is she trying to unmute? 00:40:11
No, thank you. No, it's OK. I don't really have any futures. I'm like so confused right now anyway, just with the agenda, how it 00:40:16
was printed out and all that. It's no, I haven't gotten to the future yet, just the next meeting that happens, you know? Thank you 00:40:22
very much. 00:40:29
So, umm. 00:40:39
Uh. 00:40:42
The agenda will. 00:40:43
We have no items for for the future, the next agenda other than the ones we discussed today. 00:40:46
Now thank you Diana and everybody for all the help. 00:40:53
Now, hearing no objection, we are adjourned, correct? 00:40:58
Thank you. 00:41:01

Autumn.
Thank you. 00:41:01
Up. 00:41:04
