Hello. 00:00:33
Good morning, Liz. Oh, hey, good. Can you hear me? Yes. 00:00:35
OK, it's funny because I can't see anything. 00:00:40
Right. Anyway, do we have a? We have a quorum? 00:00:47
You made a tick. Roll. Can you hear me, Liz? Oh, yeah. Just give me a second. Oh, yeah. Good. 00:00:56
OK, we're good now I'm unmuted. 00:01:22
Yes, perfect. OK, thank you everyone. Sorry I'm not the best at Zoom, but I will. 00:01:26
Takes a moment. OK, wonderful. Well, good morning and welcome. 00:01:38
This is the the BID meeting of for June. We meet the first Wednesday of every month from 8:30 to 9:30 AM in the City Manager's 00:01:43
conference room in City Hall and by Zoom. 00:01:49
I call this meeting to order at 8:32 AM. 00:01:58
And just a quick reminder to everyone that if you make a motion or second it, please state your name for the record. So let's take 00:02:05
role. Chrissy, could you say the names of the board members and then they can reply? 00:02:11
Maria Debain President Jason Bradley. 00:02:20
He is out of town. I'm Liz Jacobs, president. 00:02:26
A leftist present Alexis Sims President Kim Pullin. 00:02:31
And then we have a vacancy. 00:02:38
OK. 00:02:42
So thank you. We have a quorum, so Grant. All right, so the agenda and supporting documents in the packet were circulated in 00:02:45
advance of today's meeting. They're all available for download on the city website. Are there any questions on order of agenda 00:02:51
items from? 00:02:57
Board members. 00:03:05
Do we have a a motion to approve the agenda as is? 00:03:07
I'll make a motion to approve. 00:03:15
A second. 00:03:19
Can we get a second? 00:03:24
Thank you, Marietta. OK, Grant. OK. So. 00:03:27
We. 00:03:34
Approve the agenda. 00:03:36
And we can move on. 00:03:39
I just wanted to check something with the minutes. I didn't see the minutes from May circulated is, is that right? 00:03:43
OK, so then maybe we can approve those next time. 00:03:56
When when people have a chance to look at it, we'll do May and June together. Is that OK with everyone? 00:03:59
Yep. 00:04:08
I don't see anyone really disappointed about that. OK. 00:04:11
OK, great then. 00:04:17
Let's move on to general public comment. This portion of the meeting is reserved for members of the public to address the board on 00:04:20
any matter that's not on the agenda but is under the jurisdiction of this board. Comments from the public are limited to three 00:04:26
minutes and don't receive bid action. 00:04:32
Comments regarding items on the regular agenda shall be heard prior to the bid discussion of such items at those times. Wherever 00:04:40
possible, written correspondence should be submitted to the bid in advance of the meeting to provide adequate time for 00:04:45
consideration. 00:04:49
Are there any members of the public who would like to make a comment at this time? 00:04:54
I guess it should be me at this point since I have to leave soon. 00:05:02
Can I introduce you? Hi, this is Steve Hawke Art Gallery. 00:05:09
I've been thinking about and and other people have to the city considering the chamber considering. 00:05:18
In the long run to to revitalize the the downtown and make it more vital. Golden Triangle or quadrangle? 00:05:25
The city's got incredible resources. It's got Point Pinos. 00:05:37
Reserve and start reserve. It's got the lighthouse, which is incredible. It's got the Noah building if we can save it with murals 00:05:42
by Guggenheim, Tullow. 00:05:48
There are people, including me, that want to turn that building into a marine Research Center and museum. So the idea of Triangle 00:05:56
Quadrangle, and if it really caught on, it would be centered in Pacific Grove, the Pacific Grove. And, and the idea is historical 00:06:05
education and entertainment in a way. I mean, in Pacific Rd. you've got the museum, you've got the library. 00:06:15
You've got the heritage Bond, You have the Art Center. 00:06:24
Another point of the of the triangle would be the NOAA building. 00:06:30
If it became a marine Research Center, even now, it would work because the sherrills use the Guggenheim Fellow. Those murals, by 00:06:35
the way, are all scientifically based. If sardines are in a particular color of water, that's because that's the water they 00:06:42
survive in. So it's an educational thing. It's more than just entertainment. The lighthouse is incredible. You know, I mean, there 00:06:49
are not many places with something like that and. 00:06:56
There's a strong tribal. 00:07:05
Travel history on the peninsula, including one place on Point Pinos where in 1976 they discovered 6 tribal skeletons and one 00:07:08
Caucasian riddled with musket balls. So it's a little dark but it's but it's by that history anyway. So the triangle could be 00:07:18
downtown Pacific Grove. If it really caught on, you could have buses to take people out. People could park here. 00:07:28
They could go out, see that Point Pinos Lighthouse, they could come back, they could wander, they could eat at the restaurants, 00:07:39
they could do business. And I think it it could become well known. 00:07:45
To the Pacific Grove Golden Triangle, our project somebody suggests a quadrant that's possible too anyway, that's that's what I 00:07:53
wanted to bring up just to be considered and looked at in the future and now we're building ash now but it depends on what it's 00:08:00
decided and. 00:08:06
But and then my last comment is some of the oceanographers that are interested in that building being a major Research Center are 00:08:14
very important. Charles Green ended up oceanography and Carnival for 30 years. He's one of the world's leading experts on tracking 00:08:20
whales. 00:08:26
And so it would not be lightweight. It would be an important center. Thank you. 00:08:33
Thank you so much, Steve. So we normally don't comment back when people have comments, but I, I just want to say I think that's, 00:08:41
you know, a plan with a lot of vision and, and, you know, character and really develops some of the strengths of Pacific Grove. So 00:08:50
I really would be interested in, you know, seeing how that develops and. 00:08:59
You know there is. You know what? What I hope to see. 00:09:10
Being chair, I can impose some of my vision. I really would like to see more interaction between the different groups in town, you 00:09:13
know, amongst the business groups, amongst the arts and business groups among you know so. 00:09:19
That really makes stronger. 00:09:28
Teamwork and and gets more results. So you know, I I think keep us surprised, I would say and thank you. 00:09:32
Thank you. 00:09:41
Yeah. Any other comments from I mean, I know we don't normally comment, but I just we are. 00:09:43
Occasionally do anyway. Alright, well can I just check are there? Do we have any other public comments? 00:09:50
Is seeing none. 00:10:07
OK. 00:10:11
Oh, sorry, I can't I guess I lost it doesn't look like there's anything online either. OK, I'm not seeing the whole I don't see 00:10:14
who's online so I have no idea why that is. I usually do, but anyway, so just help me out with that and thank you. OK, so. 00:10:23
Let's move on to. 00:10:35
Ongoing business. The first item is the Chalk the Block debrief. 00:10:39
That's my agenda item, but also Christina Rodriguez. Is she on the Zoom call? 00:10:45
Oh perfect. OK, so Christina wrote the report. I'm going to try and share my screen and. 00:10:54
Christina is well and Stephanie, I have to say all three of us worked on, you know, discussed, inputted. Christina is a 00:11:01
professional event organizer and has a lot of experience in. 00:11:08
The well professional approach to what we've been doing ourselves, it's been a really welcome contribution to our project. So let 00:11:18
me just see if I can call up this was actually put in the packet so anyone who could have access that might have already read 00:11:26
this, but let me just open this and. 00:11:34
And I'd also like to, you know, formally thank Christina for her volunteer work on this. She spent dozens of hours developing 00:11:45
graphics and doing public. 00:11:52
She reached out to the public and helped, really helped us formalize this into a more organized event that's going to serve us 00:12:01
very well in years to come. So I'd really like to thank her for her work on that because it it was. 00:12:08
Invaluable. 00:12:15
Yeah, 100%. And Christine was actually a prize winner in the first annual event. And if if you look here, do you see this, this 00:12:17
beautiful octopus on the poster, that was actually Christina's work. So she's a fabulous artist as well. Anyway, so I'm going to 00:12:26
show. I take it everyone can see the screen, is that right? 00:12:34
And Christina has her hand raised. She's welcome to speak to Liz. I know you can't see that. Yeah. Go ahead, Christina. Oh, great. 00:12:44
Thank you so much. So First off, I just, for those who have not met before, my name is Christina Rodriguez. I volunteered on this 00:12:52
project after participating in the inaugural year last year as a competitor. I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity 00:13:00
because last year when I joined up on a lark, I just. 00:13:08
Kind of fell in love with the event and wanted to contribute this year in a more substantial way that could also, you know, just. 00:13:16
Fulfill that need I had to help out the other artists and to get, you know, just to just to kind of spread the event out a little 00:13:28
more. 00:13:33
And just have fun with it. So I am very grateful for the experience that this gave me and the the opportunity it provided to just 00:13:40
give something back to Pacific Grove in the way that I that I could. 00:13:47
So, and just a note, Liz, I'm not entirely positive that the report was attached to the agenda online. I was unable to find it in 00:13:56
an agenda packet or anything to download. 00:14:03
I don't know if that's something that can just be fixed after the fact, but I wanted you to know that just in case. Yeah, 100%. I, 00:14:11
I didn't realize. I just assumed that it had been. I sent it over in advance. But you know, stuff happens. So we'll definitely 00:14:18
hear that after after the fact. So in which case I'll go through in a little bit more detailed way than I was planning to. And as 00:14:26
you can see, here's the. Well, to start with, this was the poster the. 00:14:33
Chocolate block poster, which was beautiful. I especially like that it's authentic. You know, we've got this is all art from our 00:14:41
event from the previous year. So no downloads, no plagiarizing, this is just all. 00:14:48
So OK then overview. 00:14:58
So we. 00:15:01
Had it last year. I think I'm going to skip over this. It was, you know, a Small Business Saturday enhancer and. 00:15:03
Umm then the second one we did this year in May, we had deeper integration with the city and community as well as a professional 00:15:12
logo, digital assets designed for promotional materials. So integration with the city and business. It was sponsored by the BID 00:15:20
and the chamber produced by local business owners and volunteers. The event was centered at the Mechanics Bank Plaza extended to 00:15:29
sidewalks in front of the Quill Spirals, PG Art Center, Bradley Photographic, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, all in that area. 00:15:37
Participating businesses, this is different this year. We approached them on May the 11th and told them about how we were setting 00:15:48
it up. We got their consent, we listened to their concerns and mainly it was just about chalk. So we were very careful about 00:15:55
leaving pathways clear of chalk, so less tracking of chalk into businesses. But everyone said they they loved it and they were 00:16:01
really looking forward to the event again. 00:16:08
OK. Then we had owners from local art and design businesses. Jermaine Hatcher of Imagine Art Supplies, Bart Hayes of the exhibits 00:16:17
department, who was also a prize winner in the inaugural year, volunteered as judges along with council members Chaps. Fedori and 00:16:24
Joe Emilio. And they were approached. Approached particularly because they've been so supportive and interested and enthusiastic 00:16:31
about helping with the development of the Arts District and a related projects. 00:16:38
They took it really seriously. All the judges kept going around and around really debating and it got it took it they they took it 00:16:47
to the next level actually. So which was great. We okay. So a call to all the ID businesses to opt into the gift certificate 00:16:54
prizes for winners was distributed by the bid in the days leading up to the event. This is something different. So instead of 00:17:01
always asking businesses to donate. 00:17:08
You know, the purpose of Small Business Saturday is to, you know, enhance and get more people to. 00:17:15
To support local shops. So we didn't really want to ask them to donate. So we decided to use some bid money for gift certificates 00:17:22
for shops and we asked businesses if they wanted to opt into that and yeah, so they did. So we had who was it? Imagine art 00:17:31
supplies, Habitat artisana and then Quill and Wildfish donated some. 00:17:40
OK, so. 00:17:51
Participating artists. We capped it at 25, which is less than last year with a four people per team. 00:17:53
Maximum. 00:18:01
So this was smaller than last year. We just wanted to keep control of the event with issues like, you know, the the businesses 00:18:04
kind of wanted more space for people to walk and not track over the artwork and things. And also we're just, you know. 00:18:14
This is a learning curve and so we wanted to try out this this format anyway. 00:18:25
All artists agreed to a content policy, non religious, apolitical, family friendly. During the registration process they were 00:18:32
emailed guidelines, et cetera. We had a doodle zone for for kids at the Mechanics Bank. 00:18:39
So the costs here we OK. So the actual costs are pending to be honest because we've not had a chance to reconcile receipts from 00:18:47
TBC Communications, so we're waiting on those, but this is rough. OK, so 89 for the sound permit. 00:18:56
DJ 400 Flyer printing 100 and a bit adds 1400 gift certificates about 400 TBC 1500. 00:19:06
OK. So we've not included volunteer service hours? 00:19:18
Oh. 00:19:59
Thank you. 00:20:04
Thank you, Joy, thank you so much. And I still like the idea of all the neighborhoods painting their sidewalks. 00:20:07
Oh man, OK, so that that's a really exciting topic coming up. Artists in residence. OK, Anyway, OK, impact. This is kind of the 00:20:23
fun bit. 00:20:29
OK. It was promoted across all these places that you can see. We also did print and meta ads. We had a 50% increase in Facebook 00:20:38
respondents this year compared to last year, Yay. And it was chosen as a hot pick in our arts and culture from the Monterey County 00:20:45
now. 00:20:52
Publication. 00:21:01
Scores of children and adults came to participate, especially in the Doodle Zone, and to just watch the artwork develop on the 00:21:03
sidewalk. So the total attendee rate held steady from the previous year. We don't have an exact count, but it was it was well 00:21:10
attended. 00:21:16
OK. So testimonials, feedback, overall positive? 00:21:23
The chalk dust was really the only. 00:21:30
Concern here, but many parents expressed appreciation for the event as it provided a rare opportunity for public art activity to 00:21:34
do together as a family in downtown PG. Lots of adults said that. They said, you know, there's just nothing for kids to do. So 00:21:40
that was great that it was appreciated on that level, although we do really want to not have it be exclusively a children's event. 00:21:46
So that's something we're working on for next year. 00:21:52
We had a small act of vandalism that was nothing much, but it was resolved immediately. 00:21:59
Suggestion for non allergenic chalk was received and noted for for next time. Councilman Paduri expressed a desire for honorable 00:22:07
mention price categories so more more participants could walk away as award winners, which was nice too. You can read some of the 00:22:17
comments there from the Girl Scout troop and one of the winners and local business. So super you know. 00:22:26
Super well received. 00:22:37
OK, so for next year, we'd like to have an artist residency. So we want to invite a celebrated california-based chalk artist to 00:22:39
lead a residency or a two day workshop in the week leading up to chalk the block. And there's different permutations of this. We 00:22:46
haven't you know, we we just needed the time for it to get to this, to plan it, but there's a lot of wrong initiatives. You know, 00:22:54
it's art funding for these things. We're going to apply through the arts district, which is a non profit, but. 00:23:01
Again, we're really excited to work together the ID and. 00:23:09
And chamber and arts district. 00:23:14
And you know, especially to, you know, maybe even earlier in the year and do something like a, a class for 3D chalk art on 00:23:18
sidewalks, which is super popular. And I think high school kids would really love to take a class. We were thinking of maybe 00:23:25
offering it at the Arts Center and at a high school or something like that. And. 00:23:32
You know, to get get skills. 00:23:40
Elevated and you know, get people thinking about ideas and overall that would I think elevate this the quality of the artwork that 00:23:44
we do and increase, you know, more professional artists perhaps to participate too. 00:23:50
Anyway. 00:23:58
So for next year, stronger integration with local businesses, we have a lot of ideas for this. 00:24:00
So an opt in, one day coupon program with local businesses, they could offer a small dollar amount discount to participants or 00:24:07
visitors that could be reimbursed with bid funds, which would also measure impact on sales. It's something we'd like to be able 00:24:13
to. 00:24:18
Quantify. 00:24:25
Simple giveaways for visitors. So some of the mini shots, like the photographs of like, the doodles are priceless. Like, they're 00:24:28
like young Picassos, some of these kids. And we thought it'd be really cool to make stickers of their art and then that could be 00:24:35
a, you know, an asset for the event. 00:24:43
OK, so we could use the stickers to thank small children. 00:24:53
For the in the doodle zone and that would also be a way to gauge the attendance. 00:24:57
We think we could have better signage, a check in table. 00:25:04
Youth volunteers, High schoolers, T-shirts for the volunteers. 00:25:12
To help people identify who they are anyway and the list of credits. So that's your recap. So any comments from the public before 00:25:17
we have a board discussion? 00:25:24
Actually, you know what? I want to invite Chris. I'm so sorry. I should have actually said Christina, because it's really. 00:25:33
Your can I, can I invite you, Christina to, to comment 1st and then. Oh, sure. I just wanted to make sure that you noticed towards 00:25:44
the end, just in case anyone's curious towards the end of the report, it's mostly photos from the day of in case anybody wants to 00:25:50
see it. And they didn't, they're not on Facebook or whatever. 00:25:56
And then, well, here's a copy of the poster as it was. I made a version in Spanish. You keep scrolling down. Yeah. Can I just say 00:26:02
this is super important that we had. We advertised it in Spanish. Our area is, you know, Pacific Grove might not be that 00:26:10
bilingual, but our whole area is. And I was really excited to have this in Spanish. Just wanted to say, OK. And then these are all 00:26:17
different assets. Yeah. I just wanted to include the. 00:26:25
The range of the digital assets that were created, as well as the. 00:26:33
The photos you can't tell because I can't put a GIF or a GIF. However, it's pronounced into APDF. But the colors on the square 00:26:37
assets right there, those rotated. 00:26:43
So it was fun. And then so the the participants got assets that says you will find me at Chuck the Block and they could put that 00:26:50
on their social media so they could advertise it as well, which I thought was great. 00:26:57
Right. And then these are just some some photographs you can see, you know, a lot of people put a lot of effort into it. It's a 00:27:07
lot of their this is one of the cute doodles that would make a great sticker. 00:27:14
Christina wrote Welcome to chalk the block and little kids filled in the colours. 00:27:22
There's a teenager there working on his masterpiece, little kids, you know, doing really nice work, these beautiful birds. This is 00:27:30
one of the award winners, local high school kids. 00:27:37
Pacific Grove Otter this was nice happiness is Pacific Grove with. 00:27:45
Our mascots, I guess. And then this is a group. There were three friends and they worked on the art, their artwork together, so 00:27:54
that was awesome too. 00:27:59
So anyway, yeah, thank you for reminding me for to do the visuals and anything else. 00:28:04
OK, let's invite public comments. 00:28:12
OK, seeing none. 00:28:20
Then board discussion. Any comments from board members? 00:28:23
Oh, shoot your screen sharing, stop, share, OK. 00:28:32
I think it, it went really well and I got a lot of, I was there out there all day talking to people and they were asking what are 00:28:38
you going to do it next year? When are you going to do it next year? So I think possibly shifting the event a little later in June 00:28:44
might be beneficial so that maybe. 00:28:51
When kids are out of school, because I know the end of the year for school gets really busy for families with graduations and all 00:28:57
the end of the year activities, but the participation was excellent. But like you said, I'd like to see try to capture some of 00:29:03
the. 00:29:10
Our focus is to help businesses. We we didn't get our budget approved at the last council meeting because of some issues with. 00:29:52
Board member not having. 00:30:08
A current business license, but that board member is no longer on the board, so. 00:30:12
We're all you know everybody on the board has current business license in good standing with the city. So we do have a vacancy on 00:30:21
the on the board that we need to discuss. I think it's on the agenda later. But I. 00:30:27
So the City Council should be. 00:30:36
They said they were going to look at the budget again after everything was taken care of and it's been taken care of. So I think 00:30:40
you mentioned it's going to be on the 19th, It'll be on the 19th City Council meeting and that'll be through the 2425 approval of 00:30:46
the budget. And I don't think it'll be an issue. 00:30:52
Exactly what we got this part. 00:30:58
Right. And so we'll have it updated hopefully next time, she said. She'll have the maze to buy our next meeting. I. 00:31:01
Actually, July, I'm going to get it over to, I can send it to everybody before so you can see where the bar earned. That would be 00:31:13
great. And so I, I make a motion to approve the March budget. 00:31:19
Unless anybody has any questions about it. 00:31:26
2nd. 00:31:31
Yep. 00:31:35
OK. 00:31:39
Do we Chrissy, would you mind doing a roll call so we can vote? 00:31:41
Yes, Maria's second. Marie Eddie approved. Jason Bradley is not here. Liz Jacobs approved. 00:31:48
The new office approved. Alexis, thank you. 00:31:59
So can I open this for public comment? 00:32:07
Are there any you know, and I'm so sorry, I cannot see if there is anyone. Are there? Is there any member of the public zoomed in? 00:32:14
OK, let me just it doesn't look like there's any comment. Perfect. OK, so great. So. 00:32:23
Any more board discussion of this item? 00:32:33
OK, then let's move on to the discuss the June election. 00:32:37
Of umm. 00:32:44
We need an officer. So Matt was our treasurer. He's retired. And I don't know, Chrissy, is this, is this your agenda item? I 00:32:48
didn't. I wasn't sure it was on last time. And you didn't discuss it. You pushed it to this meeting. And Alexis was voted in last 00:32:56
time, Right. OK. 00:33:03
Yeah, so I mean, it's just really quick and simple. We we need a treasurer and. 00:33:13
You know. 00:33:23
I'm happy to do it. I'm happy to do it. Let's let's big shoes to fill with Matt being a bank manager, but I'm happy to do that. 00:33:28
Yeah, but I have a business owner actually comfortable. I've noticed that your attention to detail is like incredible. So I think 00:33:34
you do a great job. 00:33:40
But I can I just ask Christy, I'm not really sure if this was a like the time to vote now or if we have to do that in the next 00:33:47
meeting? 00:33:52
I mean, we have a treasure of the better, but I don't know protocol on this. Yeah, I think you could vote right now because you're 00:33:59
at the year end right now. So you're going to want to have your pleasure. 00:34:05
You're doing a meeting. You do a meeting in July, on July 3rd. Yeah, that's the next. So. Oh, good. Well, can we vote then? I move 00:34:11
that. 00:34:16
We. 00:34:23
That we vote for. Stephanie is our treasurer any second. 00:34:25
Hey, Marietta. Thank you and OK. 00:34:34
Well, Christy, could we do a roll call? 00:34:39
OK. 00:34:43
Maria being approved. Liz Jacobs. Yes. Jason Bradley, absent. Stephanie Loftus. 00:34:45
I don't think I can vote. 00:34:54
No, no, I'm fine. 00:34:59
OK. 00:35:06
Motion passes. This is Lori Braden. May I interject on item 3B? My understanding is that the budget for the bid was approved at 00:35:08
the May 15th council meeting. The motion was only to have set a deadline for that Friday. If no. 00:35:19
Business License. 00:35:32
Regulation compliance was meant, OK, So that was the only pending issue and that that was not meant. That was the condition of the 00:35:36
motion. But the budget did pass and it's not going forward to council on. 00:35:42
June 19th so the business to clarify, but the business license thing wasn't completed, but that that board member has stepped 00:35:50
down. Yes. OK, so that did pass all the all the Chamber of Commerce annual report, OK. 00:35:59
Including the budget, so it does not go back on, it does not go back to county. OK, thank you. OK, thank you. 00:36:09
Yeah. Thank you so much for that, Laurie. OK, I didn't know that either. So great. And just to say, if it wasn't clear for the 00:36:18
minutes, the the motion was approved and we have new Treasurer, Stephanie Loftus. Thank you, Stephanie. Thanks. OK. And then 00:36:24
moving along. 00:36:31
You're you're agenda item is next actually. 00:36:40
All are welcome decal reviews, we have them in hand. We had donating them to the bid, just the 1st 50 to get this off the ground, 00:36:42
but it was the design that we approved late last year and I think it's perfect timing that this is Pride Month. 00:36:52
They're very colorful and they, you know, say all are welcome, Pacific Grove. And so we have these to distribute. One thing I 00:37:02
reached out to the vendor because I did stick one on my window. I noticed that some of the adhesion marks were showing. But they 00:37:09
told me that the way you're supposed to apply a window playing, which I didn't know, is to use a spray bottle with a little bit of 00:37:16
dish soap and water and apply it wet and then kind of squeegee it on. So I did buy a couple of spray bottles on a couple of 00:37:23
squeegee's. 00:37:29
So that if anybody needs help adhering their window cling in a beautiful manner, we're happy to help. But we do have these to 00:37:36
distribute to any BID members who are interested in having them. And I think it's a nice thing to have on our windows, especially 00:37:44
for Pride Month. Oh, that's terrific. Yeah. We need to get an e-mail out to the BID members and. 00:37:52
Show the decal and, you know, explain everything and, you know, give them a chance to tell them who they need to reach out to. So 00:38:02
that would be awesome. So there are they going to be available at the chamber to pick up or where? 00:38:09
We could do that and I could have Ellen and send out an e-mail. She has that whole list if that helps. 00:38:16
And I'm happy to take a picture of it once I have. I was going to get my install line when I get back to the shop. Yeah, I think 00:38:23
that's that's grand. And I really like the oh, sorry, did someone say something? 00:38:31
I was just going to say, what did you want to write? The e-mail? The description? 00:38:39
And then we'll push it out for you. OK, because I, I actually missed. 00:38:44
Missed all of it. I wasn't sure what the purpose was. Yeah. So that would be good. So yeah. Yeah. A year ago, the Supreme Court 00:38:50
made that ruling that kind of upset a lot of business owners That said, you don't have to serve everyone in your. If someone 00:38:58
offends your religion, you don't need to have them in your business. And that's a big departure from. 00:39:07
I think what a lot of business owners are used to, so we felt that it was. 00:39:16
Maybe a good idea to reassure members of the public like if if you are happy to serve everyone in your business that you put that 00:39:21
on your storefront because. 00:39:27
Speaking to the the local Pride group, you know they were like, well, if you don't want to serve us, would like to know before we 00:39:34
come in your business rather than after. 00:39:40
So we we worked on this and it makes me laugh, I guess because it's committee work. It took a whole year for us to do this, but 00:39:46
the result is great. 00:39:51
We went through lots of stages of, you know, trying to decide what to do anyway, and we only meet once a month, so it's taken a 00:39:58
while but. 00:40:00
We're, you know, we're ready to proclaim that, you know, we are welcoming and we are open in Pacific Grove and, you know, we just 00:40:05
want to promote. 00:40:11
Our values I guess through through this simple statement so. So it's a decal to put on the front of your shop. 00:40:17
Who gives businesses the option to Yeah, they don't have to do it, but if they feel they want to be inclusive, they are welcome to 00:40:27
that. Yeah, absolutely. If if so, I mean, it's it's not like, you know, it's just like if you would like to have that, then we we, 00:40:34
we can provide it. So if we blow through this fifty, I'm happy to order more. I will donate them again. 00:40:42
So. 00:40:51
I would like to invite public comment on this. We slipped into our discussion after the presentation, but if there is public 00:40:54
comment, please. 00:40:57
Let us know. 00:41:03
Anyone. 00:41:04
It looks like we aren't seeing any. 00:41:08
So, yeah, so thank you so much. And then we've got the new bid logo update. Can I just ask if? 00:41:11
There's no name attached to this item, so I'm not sure who was gonna present that. 00:41:20
Through through the chair, I can I can speak to that. So this has continued to be on the agenda since we decided to go in the 00:41:28
direction of including the downtown light. 00:41:36
Post if you will. 00:41:46
Within the logo versus some of the other visual elements like the butterfly or the lighthouse. And so I wasn't at the last 00:41:49
meeting. 00:41:54
We did utilize the same design crowd. 00:41:59
Just to pull in some ideas and stuff like that. I do have that and I'm going to send it out to the bid again. I had hoped to be 00:42:04
able to present that, but unfortunately this last second appointment precluded me from being in front of my computer for the 00:42:11
meeting today. But I'll e-mail that out to everybody and we can utilize the same. 00:42:18
Process that we did before where you guys put in votes and comments and stuff like that and see if you like what all of the 00:42:27
designers have come up with for for drafts. 00:42:33
Great. Yeah, Thank you so much. And we're kind of running out of time anyway. So that that would be perfect if we could do it that 00:42:40
way. And we put a time limit on, you know, discussion about that maybe like the end of next week that we all get our comments and 00:42:47
in so that we can make sure we have it, you know, in plenty of time for presentation at the board meeting in July. 00:42:55
Absolutely, yeah. 00:43:04
OK. And then just public comment on that anyone? 00:43:06
All right. 00:43:11
The new business. 00:43:14
So as you know, we have a vacancy on our board and we need to invite nominations for. 00:43:18
For business owners locally that would that might be interested, I can think of some really awesome business owners that are so 00:43:28
civic minded and volunteer a lot and have a lot of enthusiasm. I just need to ask them. 00:43:34
And you know, and would you all please do the same? 00:43:41
Absolutely. I was thinking of one of the gals from Fiona Floral, so I know they've expressed interest in being involved. 00:43:47
The other What about the owner of Poptopia, the balloons? I I talked to her and she's still like setting up her shop. It's still 00:43:56
like plaster is drawing in there. 00:44:03
But she's absolutely got all the the skill set, like she's really keen and and has experience and stuff so. 00:44:14
I mean, I was thinking every time I send an e-mail out to Studio 171 I get the most amazing responses and I kind of thought they 00:44:23
would be worth approaching. 00:44:29
I I'll see where that goes, but yeah. And anyone. 00:44:36
Could so. 00:44:45
Would you talk to Fiona Floral? Yeah, I'll talk to Studio 171. And you know, if I guess Christy could, could the, could Ellen just 00:44:46
send out an e-mail blast like, well, when she does for the decal, maybe she could also mention that we've got a vacancy. So. OK. 00:44:57
We invited and I would love to see like one of our clothing stores, boutique stores. They always when you visit them, sometimes 00:45:10
they're struggling and I'm trying to encourage them to come to meetings to get involved, give us ideas what can help them and so I 00:45:17
can approach some of them too and send them their way and see if they'd be interested. I think it would be good. A different 00:45:24
sector of downtown. That's a good idea too. 00:45:30
Great. OK. 00:45:38
Umm, let's, let's do it. Yeah, variety is really good and you know if. 00:45:40
I, I 100% agree with what you said. So do we only have, do we have a limit on the number of seats we can have? Like could we have 00:45:46
two more board members or is it, are we like capped at the number? Well, I think most of the BCCS are seven. That's the Max. But I 00:45:56
don't know if we could if we wanted to. So yeah, we were trying to find a way to get Matt Bosworth to stay on as a, you know. 00:46:05
What do you call like retired professors or emeritus? Could we do it? Remember emeritus? Like, I don't know, but that's a, that's 00:46:16
one of those technical things. Lori being our admin person, do you happen to know that? 00:46:23
We can find out. We can. I'll look in the like. If we can open the bylaws, I'll find out. Yeah, but thanks. Oh, can I, is that 00:46:35
your job now, Stephanie? Can I leave it? I'm just like reviewing paperwork constantly. So I'm so great. All right, so and then can 00:46:43
I invite public comment if anyone would like to add any comments about? 00:46:52
Board vacancy nominations. 00:47:02
From the public. 00:47:05
OK, seeing none new marketing plan. So again, this is just one of those agendas that went out without names on it. So I'm not 00:47:08
really sure who's whose topic this is. Does anyone volunteer this? 00:47:15
As I kind of have an idea of. 00:47:22
I think it's not necessarily a new marketing plan, but just looking a little closer. 00:47:26
Like when we place ads and things of what's going out when, because I know like the biggest ad buy we did for print ad buy we did 00:47:35
for chocolate block went out in the pine cone the day before the event and it still had the registration QR code, which have been 00:47:41
closed for two weeks by then. 00:47:48
So I'd just like to look a little more closely at where we're seeing the most engagement to make sure that we're getting the most 00:47:56
bang for our buck in terms of advertising. Because I don't know about a 700, you know, 600 dollars, $700.00 ad in the pine cone 00:48:02
the day before is really worth. 00:48:08
Placing, you know, since it becomes irrelevant the next day. So I think it's just looking a little closer at where where we're 00:48:17
spending the money. 00:48:23
To make sure we're we're maximizing that. 00:48:30
Yeah, I think maybe what we should do is when we get our new budget and we talk about events for next year. 00:48:35
You know, it would be really useful to have subcommittees for each event, you know, so that we. 00:48:43
I don't know, we can, we can discuss that a little bit more and have some consensus I guess on. 00:48:50
How you know where and how we advertise, I think that's a good point. And you know, it's always of interest to to the board 00:49:00
members and you know, I think maybe the board members could just be more involved in it so. 00:49:07
I thought, I thought would chop the block. It was really everything was so consistent and the color scheme, you know, having kind 00:49:15
of a brand like Steve and, and has done and you know, Christina did. It's just so helpful because it, when you see things multiple 00:49:23
times, it really sticks in your head. And I, I personally, it came up in my personal algorithm in, you know, Instagram and in 00:49:30
Facebook. So it was like, you know, the more eyes that are on it. 00:49:38
The better, obviously. So I think that it really looked elevated this time. 00:49:46
And I think it helped, helped a lot. Yeah, we're having more professional input would be useful. Can I invite public comment on 00:49:53
this before if we go too far on our marketing for the future, I mean it's. 00:50:01
It's pretty much internal to the board. I'm not sure people would be that interested, but any more comments by board members on 00:50:10
this topic? 00:50:14
Just to give the feel, the vibe of the Arts District and the shops involved and they have such amazing marketing muscle over 00:50:59
there. They will put it on lots of platforms and exciting for me is that they will put it on on the radar of visit California, 00:51:07
which is international. So when you think about this, this is the start of something really exciting and we just have to build on 00:51:15
this with the Arts district. You know, if you know, if we get footfall in downtown, which is like also one of the bid organized. 00:51:23
You know, mission kind of goals. 00:51:32
And then if we can get, you know, a reputation for it, if we can get known for it, which is going to take a lot of marketing and 00:51:37
work, you know, and then just imagine what if PG were known as an arty place, Like it's fun. Like, Oh yeah, go to PG. It's great. 00:51:44
It's the nature, it's whatever. And there's a cool art district or something like that. It would be exciting. So I'm, I'm hopeful. 00:51:51
I just wanted to share that with you because it's, I know it's arts district, but it, it dovetails so closely with what the aims 00:51:57
of the, of the bid are. 00:52:04
So public comment on that. 00:52:12
No board discussion on that. Any comments from board members? 00:52:17
We're we're at 9:30 so. 00:52:25
I just have to ask Lori if we can squeeze in business updates. 00:52:31
Really quickly any. 00:52:36
The agendas, the meeting is 8:30 to 9:30. OK, All right, OK, then let's include the meeting now. It's 9:30 AM Thank you very much. 00:52:38
I will just say. 00:52:46
If you know if the folks in the in the boardroom want to share updates about businesses, those are always really fun and you might 00:52:55
want to just share what's going on and maybe we'll start with that next time or you can continue it to the next meeting. 00:53:03
Right. Yeah, the yeah, next meeting, we'll start with that. OK. Thank you, everyone. 00:53:12
Thank you. 00:53:19
Thank you. 00:53:22

Thank you. 00:53:19
Thank you. 00:53:22
