That's why they were weird. I was stuck in, stuck in a waiting room, looked like. 00:00:06
OK, so. 00:00:11
That's the whole call then. 00:00:13
Matt Bosworth. 00:00:15
I'm here. 00:00:17
It's in Bradley. 00:00:19
Yeah, yeah. 00:00:20
Loftus here and Liz Jacobs is also here. 00:00:22
So we have 4-4 board members, so let us. 00:00:26
Begin the meeting. 00:00:34
At the time. 00:00:35
830-6836. 00:00:38
Thank you. Can I just ask? 00:00:40
I don't remember the status of. 00:00:44
Do you have an extra edge? 00:00:50
Because I didn't know this. OK, I've got her on the phone, but I think. 00:00:54
Yeah, two weeks. 00:01:02
OK. I'll give you hers. OK. Sounds good. There we go. I'll take it back. 00:01:05
Absolutely. OK. 00:01:11
Right. 00:01:13
Just a just a question. 00:01:16
We had talked about extending this to be an hour long meeting instead of 45 minutes. Can I just ask, do you know if there has been 00:01:19
any change on that? 00:01:22
I'll just move that forward. OK. So welcome everybody. 00:01:28
I'd like to invite any public comments that on the items that are not on the agenda. Is there anyone? 00:01:33
Online, our note of thanks. 00:01:42
Seeing none, let's move on to. 00:01:45
Item number four on the agenda, which is the. 00:01:48
20/23/24. 00:01:52
Budget reports. 00:01:55
Well, budget here, so. 00:01:58
I did get a report from Jenny which. 00:02:01
You know the annual reports. 00:02:07
Year. 00:02:09
This just came in. 00:02:12
On the notes to me, so apologies. 00:02:15
It's. 00:02:18
I don't know that we're going to be able to do anything about that because none of us have it. 00:02:23
Exactly. I think I would move. 00:02:27
That we push this to the next. 00:02:30
Meeting because this has a lot of detail in it and I think that everyone's going to want to look at it. Sure, it's got numbers 00:02:33
and. 00:02:36
It's just 2 1/2 pages, I think quite easily read it, but I feel like you'd want to read it yourselves. So anyone wanna second 00:02:41
promotion? 00:02:45
I'll second. 00:02:50
OK then. 00:02:52
Let's vote. 00:02:54
So we're voting to move the budget report to the August meeting, OK? 00:02:57
Mats. 00:03:03
Aye. 00:03:05
Jason. 00:03:07
Aye. 00:03:08
Aye, I vote as well to move it to the next one, OK? 00:03:10
So let's move on to item number 5, approving the funding request for youth ambassadors. We had the presentation last week. 00:03:16
And I really. 00:03:24
Felt like we all wanted to support them. Yes, and we. 00:03:27
Basically agreed to do that at this meeting, so. 00:03:31
I don't have the details of me. Do you remember what the amount was? I think we wanted. 00:03:35
Is it something like three? I think it was like 2500 or something in that it was an amount that seems. 00:03:44
And Jenny said we had. 00:03:51
We have the the budget, the budget for it exactly. OK, so would can I just check? Would anyone like further discussion on this or 00:03:53
further information, or do you remember well enough from last time to be able to vote to support this? 00:04:00
Any comments from? 00:04:11
The board. 00:04:13
What was the dollar amount again? 00:04:16
Yeah, we think it was like 2 1/2 or $3000. 00:04:19
And Jenny had said that we have the budget for it. 00:04:25
I'm so sorry if I had known that I was. 00:04:29
Leaving the meeting. 00:04:31
He would have done more homework on this. So yes, Steve Thomas. 00:04:34
I was just going to say for for those newer members in the past, I believe it was 2500. I could be wrong, but. 00:04:39
This was also money that in the past had been allocated to the. 00:04:47
Feast of Lanterns as one of the sponsors of the fireworks or of the actual pageant. And so. 00:04:52
While it is a different request, Matt, from an accounting standpoint, it's not something that. 00:05:00
Is out of the ordinary and I just wanted to provide that background. 00:05:07
Thank you. 00:05:10
Thank you. 00:05:12
Thank you, Steve. 00:05:14
Well, I would move to approve that. 00:05:17
That expense. 00:05:21
Yeah. 00:05:22
OK. Let me hold that for just one second and let me ask Laurie, do we have minutes from the meetings now? 00:05:24
Let me ask Jenny so because I'm sure it might not even be in the next. 00:05:32
I just feel like the responsible thing is to know the amount that let me. I'm texting Jack, Jenny. OK, perfect. 00:05:38
OK, so. 00:05:45
Whilst. 00:05:46
I'm sorry, it's just a little thing and I'm sure it's fine, but I would really like to get the dollar amount, I mean. 00:05:48
If if possible, OK. 00:05:54
I'm just looking through this to see if there's anything. 00:05:57
Maybe we move on to item 6 while we wait to hear from Jenny. 00:06:03
Yeah. 00:06:11
Or we could just say an amount. We could say 2500 if you want to. 00:06:13
Is that does that sound OK? 00:06:23
Certainly sounds in line. 00:06:28
I I just don't want to set a precedent. 00:06:30
You know if it's way higher than what we've donated before. 00:06:33
Anyone like to make a motion to approve 2500? 00:06:38
I like to wait to hear from Jenny. 00:06:45
OK. Then let us move on to the Chocolate Block event. So is there any way, Steve, that you can show this is a really attractive 00:06:50
PowerPoint? I I just saw it in the. 00:06:56
Yeah, hang on for just a second. 00:07:06
I've I had said this to Jenny and I didn't realize she wasn't going to be there. I've got a doctor's appointment at 9:15, So what 00:07:10
I'm going to do is very quickly hop on to. 00:07:15
My computer, because I actually happen to be and I'm going to, I'm going to join the meeting via my computer. 00:07:21
And that I can share the. 00:07:29
The PowerPoint, so just bear with me for just a a quick moment. 00:07:32
I. 00:07:38
Let's see here just trying to open the. 00:07:39
OK, while you're getting that ready, I just would love to say something that it was a very beautiful event and. 00:07:44
Yeah, I think everyone who's. 00:07:52
Who attended really enjoyed it and. 00:07:54
I'll just say that. 00:07:57
I put some I took a lot of photographs and I put some on the Pacific Grove Arts District Instagram. 00:07:59
And on next door because it's a. 00:08:08
Yeah, I advertised the event on there, so there's a lot of interest. So I put the photos on and I think it was 4 posts that I did 00:08:12
of 10 photos each. 00:08:16
This is the maximum you can upload this 10 and. 00:08:21
I don't know. I just had so many lights and comments and then next door gave me a badge for the most popular. 00:08:25
The month or something and. 00:08:34
Anyway, so it was it was received really well and. 00:08:38
You know. 00:08:42
I think we've. 00:08:44
You stumbled onto something. Really. Really. 00:08:45
Important for the future, for generating. 00:08:49
Interest. I walked around in the shops as well and I found. 00:08:52
For example, Studio 171, she said it was the busiest day that she'd had, she thought all year and you know, there was. It did 00:08:57
bring in. 00:09:01
Well, you, what would you say, would you say that you had? Yeah, it was busy. I was outside. 00:09:08
For the event, which was really fun. 00:09:13
It was really well received and a lot of parents coming up. 00:09:17
Thanking us for putting it on a couple notes that I wrote down. 00:09:22
Next year. 00:09:28
Everybody wants. They're already a like when is it happening again? They're excited about it, which is fun. 00:09:30
We kind of. 00:09:36
Made a designated little doodle area for kids because a lot of kids were coming up. 00:09:38
With family, with their parents and seeing what other people were doing. And so, you know, we just had a box of chalk out there 00:09:43
and they were doodling all kinds of cute things on the sidewalk, which was fun. 00:09:48
Umm. 00:09:54
I think we all received the e-mail that Jenny sent from the. 00:09:55
Complaint from the resident of the Holman Building. 00:09:59
We didn't have a sound permit for the event, which was. 00:10:03
Not great. The police officer who came by was very nice. 00:10:08
And just had us. 00:10:13
You know, I had because it was pretty loud in the morning, so the the. 00:10:14
The police officer came by and just talked to the DJ and had him. 00:10:19
Um. 00:10:24
Turn down the sound a little bit, which was fine. 00:10:26
Umm. 00:10:29
We didn't have any prizes. 00:10:31
So I just ran. Liz was nice enough to donate a gift certificate, and then I ran a bunch of gift certificates so that we could give 00:10:34
something to each of the winners. 00:10:38
So next year, I think we just need to. 00:10:43
Be a little bit more proactive about that, but they were delighted and we had certificates for all the winners. 00:10:48
Umm. 00:10:55
And you know, other than that we had a lot of extra chalk, which was good. We're storing it. So we have a good start for next 00:10:57
year. 00:11:00
But it seemed like a lot of people brought their own non-toxic chalk to to. 00:11:05
To use. 00:11:09
So I can, I can run through this real quick. A lot of what Stephanie just mentioned, I addressed towards the towards the end of 00:11:12
the very quick presentation. 00:11:17
And so if you guys can see the PowerPoint, I can just start running through it real quick. 00:11:23
Go. 00:11:30
We see it. OK, great. OK, perfect. Thank you. 00:11:31
Let's get this going here. 00:11:36
And it's not moving forward. 00:11:42
OK. So here we go. So just a quick review for, for this year, I believe we had 34 artists that participated, I think we had 00:11:46
initially established. 00:11:52
There were going to be 30 and we were able to get 34, which is awesome. Liz and the and the Downtown Arts District did a great job 00:11:59
of helping to facilitate and promote the event and that is really what I think made it. 00:12:06
A wonderful event because you had a a great mixture of. 00:12:15
A great mixture of. 00:12:20
Sort of professional or seasoned artist and younger artists and we also had had great attendance as well. 00:12:22
From a press relations standpoint on the PG Chamber and the city, I helped promote it, The Pine Cone. There was a nice article in 00:12:30
there OKOKION had that had it on their community calendar online, and there were several local blogs and social media accounts 00:12:36
that shared the event. 00:12:43
As well. And for an inaugural event, it was I think great because we didn't get overwhelmed and it's always good to be able to 00:12:51
build out from that. We had paid advertising in the weekly and on Facebook and Instagram. We got great engagements for our 00:12:58
investment. 00:13:05
And then the just the final thing, so we do need to have noise permits for all the event. That's something that we have not had to 00:13:12
do with any of our events in the past, but obviously we received a complaint. 00:13:19
You guys saw the way in which the complaint was phrased and I wasn't super happy about that, so I'm just going to leave it at 00:13:26
that. But Jenny and I spoke the day after the event and what we're going to do is if we can. 00:13:34
Next month, with our budget is established, the tentative dates for all of our events we go in and we will. 00:13:42
Um, submit the sound permits for those dates. 00:13:49
And then we're covered and then all we have to do is then if we decide to move a date, we just have to amend the permit, but it's 00:13:53
already been established with the city. 00:13:58
It'd be great to see some wider outreach to the arts community and obviously this event will continue to grow and with the 00:14:03
inaugural event now we can start with the the business integration and that's where in the past I think that. 00:14:12
We would be able to get those gift certificates early on with businesses that can join in and utilizing some of the information 00:14:21
that Stephanie and Liz provided about other Chalk the block events, if you will. 00:14:28
You know they can be sponsors and you know dot dot dot have their. 00:14:36
You know, we we can publicize the fact that they're providing prizes to give them a little bit of an extra boost. 00:14:43
And so with that, I will stop sharing my screen. This will get emailed out in PDF form to everybody and I'm going to be switching 00:14:50
off of my computer now and back onto my phone because I've got to start driving to. 00:14:58
My doctor's appointment, but I will still be. 00:15:06
I will still be online to answer any questions, just you know. 00:15:11
Trying to juggle everything during the summer as you know how it goes. 00:15:17
Thanks, Steve so much, Steve. That's great. Thank you, Steve. 00:15:21
Hopefully you can hear me. This question is to you Steve or or anybody that has the answer. What is the cost of a sound permit? 00:15:26
Does anyone know? 00:15:29
I believe the the. 00:15:34
Amount that Jenny provided was $80. 00:15:37
OK. Maybe maybe 60 or 80, it wasn't, it wasn't over 100 and so we would just add that into our. 00:15:41
Our budget. 00:15:53
You're breaking up, Steve. 00:15:57
OK. 00:16:02
You know, anything like that, it looks like we would have to get a sound permit. 00:16:03
OK, we would not looks, we would have to get a sound permit. 00:16:08
Well, certainly to cover our. 00:16:11
Behinds in the future, Yes, since there are great people that are complaining. 00:16:15
Understood. 00:16:20
We know, yeah. And I. 00:16:23
Thought it was. It made my Saturday morning actually. I loved the music but it was fun. Yeah, it's all fun. I have an update from 00:16:26
Jenny. Unless we wanna keep talking about jukebox. Ohh, so that's. 00:16:31
So. 00:16:38
Just if we could just carry on with chocolate Block I I wanted to say that. 00:16:39
It would be great next year to start maybe in January and strategize how we plan this and I think it was really important to 00:16:45
provide some chalk to high school teachers in the community and also some books that that we gave them. 00:16:54
Because it it let them understand what it's about and and give them a chance to fool around with it in their own time and. 00:17:03
No, and they design. 00:17:11
Amazing. 00:17:13
I thought the the young entrance had some really good things and I also wanted to say I felt that the poster was geared towards 00:17:14
younger children. And I think I'd like to maybe use the octopus splash, the exhibits department as as a in the advertising next 00:17:21
year, as well as the leafy Sea Dragon, just because that's a little bit more grown up and we could we could have a variety, but I 00:17:29
just wanted to get more like older artists because we didn't have that many of the kids. 00:17:36
So just to have more balance in that, so to encourage more broadly that high school art classes and and you know those guys and 00:17:44
also older people, so I think. 00:17:50
You know, just more targeted marketing would would be. 00:17:56
Grace, you know to to get more diversity in this. 00:18:01
And then we, yeah, the doodle area, we'll have a designated doodle area for young kids next year with the other thing we thought 00:18:06
would be a good idea. And I think Jason mentioned that after a week it might be an idea to arrange for some power washing. 00:18:12
Because it starts to look. 00:18:19
I think you were saying it. It's. 00:18:23
Not the look you like in front of your shop, Jason, is that right? 00:18:24
Yeah, I think things I was going to chime in and and say something on that. So I like everything everybody's saying. It sounds 00:18:29
like this is a good first event and I'm also being asked all the time too when there's another one gonna be put on. And I mean 00:18:34
even doing these twice a year would be great because I think it was so well received, but. 00:18:40
I don't want to push it right. 00:18:46
But. 00:18:49
But yeah, let's do everything the same way. Just be more organized and elevate the marketing material. Do more marketing part of 00:18:50
that organization. Things that already have been said, of course is have have the prizes established ahead of time and mark, and 00:18:58
that should be part of the marketing campaign, at least on the landing page on the website. Here are the prizes which can draw 00:19:06
people, have the judges designated ahead of time so people like me can show up and aren't stuck in our. 00:19:13
Cops don't judge without me. 00:19:21
Oh. 00:19:24
That was good. 00:19:26
Ohh, sorry, go ahead Jason. I didn't mean to interrupt. 00:19:27
OK, so all all those things sound sound great in terms of organization for the next one. And yes, it definitely would like to 00:19:30
propose leave the stuff up for a week, but after that they're just now these smudges in front of all the shops, mine included. 00:19:37
Having a power washing after a week would be the thing, the thing to do. I think we're going to probably need approval. I heard 00:19:45
through the Grapevine, I don't know if this is true. One of you might know that power washing is not allowed in Pacific Grove. 00:19:52
But if that's the case, and we'll need approval to do it. 00:20:00
But it'd be important to do that in front of the shops they were on. 00:20:04
After a while, just kind of weird looking and unsightly. 00:20:08
Right and and Matt, you might remember when we power washed a few years ago when the bid to helped to. 00:20:13
Facilitate that. 00:20:21
I believe that if you are going to power wash, you definitely have to get a permit. 00:20:23
But also there are a couple of companies that do it and I'm I'm using air quotes here. 00:20:29
Waterless sly or they capture the water because it's a it's a storm water issue. 00:20:37
And this is when we were power washing due to the seagull. 00:20:44
I've done. 00:20:49
And so it was a it was a health issue. And while the chalk is non-toxic, I know that there are a number of people. 00:20:50
Umm. 00:21:00
In the city and on the City Council that. 00:21:01
Would have an issue with. 00:21:05
Anything flowing out to the Bay, even if it is non-toxic and so. 00:21:07
Umm. 00:21:12
What I'll do is I'll work with Jenny to try to and and the city and see what we can come up with and I can come back with a 00:21:13
report. 00:21:17
Just, you know, here's what we're going to need to do. Here's how we can go about it, That kind of a thing. 00:21:21
And that way then the the board can make a decision and ultimately it all comes down to what the cost is going to be for it. I 00:21:27
think it was the great event and to your point about the marketing, absolutely we can certainly have a. 00:21:37
A more grown up or experienced marketing feel for the event. 00:21:47
The only thing I would say in in regards to in the advertisements. 00:21:54
Or or the posters is if we can utilize some of the the artwork in a in a graphic way. 00:21:59
Still promoting it, but allowing for some flexibility for you know, print and online and things like that. 00:22:07
I think we will be able to. 00:22:14
Umm. 00:22:17
We'll be able to provide something that hits all the marks that you're looking for. 00:22:19
Yeah, some sounds good. 00:22:24
And excuse me, I forgot if I mentioned this to in addition to the, you know, prizes going ahead of time and part of the marketing 00:22:28
material having some categories that shared, I know we've judged with categories. 00:22:34
I don't know if that was shared with the the attendees or participants ahead of time, but I love the idea of having categories and 00:22:40
we can have categories geared toward adults and toward youth. 00:22:46
Yes. 00:22:52
As well and have those advertised ahead of time. 00:22:53
We had discussed maybe doing age groups do like a family category because one family actually won one of the awards, and then 00:22:56
doing age groups. 00:23:01
And then maybe like a best overall, we just kind of made-up five categories because we just were like right 11 little kid came up 00:23:07
to me and he says, do you have an award for most chaotic cause? I think I would win that. 00:23:13
Really. 00:23:21
Well, it's like stuff like that is fun and a great idea. The wackiest thing or something playful would be fun. 00:23:23
Yes, yes. 00:23:29
But I think, I think it was all positives except for that one. 00:23:31
Comment, but I don't. 00:23:35
Hi. 00:23:37
Take that with a grain of salt, because I think it was. 00:23:37
A little out of line, but. 00:23:40
That's just me. 00:23:42
Yeah, no, it's it was absolutely inspiring. I think everyone had a great time. So yeah, So the H banding as well. 00:23:44
I'm just wondering if you could approve it. 00:23:54
This down so that I have made a bunch of notes about it already. 00:23:58
All right. Anything else on the chopping block? 00:24:04
Block and I'm like, yeah, let's see. 00:24:07
We want to go back to the last one. I have an update from Jenny. Thank you. OK, so could you we'll we'll go back to. 00:24:10
Item. 00:24:18
The funding request. So what was the amount? So I I sent a text to Jenny asking her what the youth ambassadors asked for. They did 00:24:21
ask for 2500 and she informed me. 00:24:27
Um, that Dixie Lane is not planning on doing any events this year and we had given her that much for Butterfly Days. So. 00:24:34
That amount can just go to the youth and ambassadors if we wish to give it to them and it doesn't change anything from last year. 00:24:42
So we'll do you want, should we do a motion first for the 2500 and then? 00:24:53
Break this down so it doesn't move. 00:25:01
Thank you. 00:25:06
I'll make a motion to give $2500 to the Youth Ambassadors for the Pacific Grove Summer Lights Festival OK? 00:25:07
Ducking anyone? 00:25:16
Umm. 00:25:18
OK. 00:25:20
I'll second that. 00:25:21
I think we're getting noise from Christies, yeah, background composition, knowing what they're talking and they're, you know, it 00:25:23
is for them. 00:25:26
You might want to use. OK, so. 00:25:31
Great. So Matt Bosworth. 00:25:35
We'll vote on that. 00:25:39
2nd. 00:25:41
OK, Jason. 00:25:42
Hi. 00:25:45
75 And I vote as well, so we unanimously approve the funding request. 00:25:47
And then, so there is the amount of another $2500 that we're not going to be using for butterfly days. 00:25:53
And this is not on the agenda. I don't think we can. 00:26:02
Do it. Can we without? No. I think that was the amount. 00:26:05
She was saying to shift it to these ambassadors instead of butterfly days. 00:26:10
But does that have to be on or can we just vote on that do you any just we're we're just there's nothing to vote on because 00:26:14
they're not having the event. 00:26:18
No, I mean. 00:26:23
It's just a protocol thing. Can we invent another agenda item on the fly and say like, no, no, it does have to be public? Yeah, 00:26:25
that's what I thought. So, OK, let's. 00:26:30
Put that on the agenda for next time, then. Is that? 00:26:36
I guess I'll tell Jenny that that we will. 00:26:41
Discuss giving. 00:26:45
The same amount again doubling the amount because of no butterfly days. 00:26:47
OK, so. 00:26:52
Well. 00:26:55
Well, no, we we have a suspended $2500 that we had thought would be given to Butterfly Days but now it's not going to be because 00:26:58
they're not having the event. That's what Jenny said is weren't we're taking that amount and giving it to the youth ambassador. So 00:27:04
there's no Ohh. So that's not Ohh Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's just. 00:27:10
She just said it. Just. 00:27:16
Is it just clears out? Yeah, it's where it's one for one. We're good. Very good. All right then. 00:27:19
So let's move on to the logo update discussion. 00:27:27
So that is definitely locked us so. 00:27:32
I did some research. 00:27:36
You know we have our existing logo which you know we all agreed doesn't really capture the essence of what we yeah, Palmers, it's 00:27:39
more it looks a little bit more residential. 00:27:46
Um, so we had talked about having a logo contest. 00:27:52
Umm. 00:27:57
Which is great locally. 00:27:58
There are. I found out. I had no idea. There are websites where you can offer $250 and graphic designers just flood you with 00:28:01
logos. 00:28:06
Had no idea that existed. 00:28:11
But some what we what I had. 00:28:14
Discussed at the last meeting, which I was concerned about, was. 00:28:18
Because I'm from the graphics field and with Steve with advertising is. 00:28:23
When we we need to give them specific guidelines. It can't be just somebody you know does a painting of. 00:28:29
Downtown. And they're like here, this is your logo. 00:28:37
So I I put together and I can share, I can e-mail this, have Jenny e-mail this. But I put together kind of a. 00:28:43
Some specifics about the logo being in Scalable Vector Graphic Format, meaning. 00:28:52
Umm. 00:28:58
You know it can be one inch big or it can be billboard size and the quality of the the logo isn't doesn't suffer that it needs to 00:29:00
be in CMYK, but we may reproduce it in black and white or gay grayscale. 00:29:07
You know, we advised them to avoid gradients and have to. I mean, it's just very it's more technical stuff. 00:29:17
And then the other thing we had talked about is. 00:29:23
And I found a statement about intellectual property that the the contestants need to understand. Whatever. 00:29:26
Logo that we choose that it becomes our intellectual property and we. 00:29:33
You know, we'll use it on. 00:29:40
Website Social media sites, possibly apparel, posters, other printed materials. 00:29:42
And that they need to. 00:29:48
You know, agree to the fact that this artwork is theirs. They didn't copy it from anyone. It's not used. It's not any. 00:29:51
Licensed or stock artwork that you know requires a royalty or a fee to be paid. So it's just kind of some specifics, but. 00:30:00
The one part that I didn't know and I think needs further discussion from us is. 00:30:09
What we want the characteristic. You know what our it says on the the PG. 00:30:14
Website that the purpose of the Downtown Business Improvement District is to market and promote downtown Pacific growth. 00:30:21
So that's kind of our statement, but what? 00:30:28
What do what are we looking for in terms of a logo? 00:30:32
Like are we wanting? 00:30:36
It to be, you know. 00:30:38
We need some descriptive words to give to people, I think if we're gonna open this up to the public. 00:30:41
Yeah, that's. 00:30:48
So images that convey something about. 00:30:51
Homers, I suppose I mean. 00:30:56
Jason, you did a beautiful one for the Arts District and it had nothing to do with art. It was just. 00:30:59
Well, thank you. 00:31:06
The colors of our tunes with the Cypress tree and and it was stunning. With you it's it's yeah I. 00:31:08
My my suggestion on that is to just keep it. Keep it simple. Don't try and incorporate too many elements in it. I don't know I 00:31:14
mean. 00:31:18
If we go as far as. 00:31:22
Yeah, you're right. We did say it First, we were gonna do a contest. If we're kind of moving away from that, we just want to like, 00:31:25
give it to a couple of. 00:31:28
Graphic designers as say what they could come up with there, there is always the option of keeping let's just get it done, keeping 00:31:34
it in house. I can, I can help even just create one with a a friend of mine who's a graphic designer. 00:31:39
And do it that way just to throw that out there to. 00:31:46
Make things simple. If, if, if that helps. If you want to keep going down the road, we're going here. 250 bucks is definitely 00:31:51
affordable. 00:31:56
Happy to support that as well, but either way I would suggest just keeping it. 00:32:01
Keeping it as simple as possible so the logo received referring to. I could even show it here if if we want just to give some 00:32:05
context, but it's just a Cypress tree and some color and a pattern behind it. 00:32:12
And the and and the letters. 00:32:19
So, so think of a characteristic that will either define commerce or the area. 00:32:24
Or some something that you want to use to define us and then wrap it around to that. 00:32:31
I wouldn't try and incorporate too many things into it either way, but start with 1-2 elements at most. 00:32:37
And have talent be a part of it. 00:32:43
The palette that I used for for us, for the Arts District, Pacific Grove Council was Beach dune pallets. So we can go down that 00:32:46
road with it. We can go down. Cypress, Cypress Grove Palette, we can go down. 00:32:53
The colors of downtown, if there were such a thing. Palette, you know, something that you know represents Pacific Grove is what I 00:33:00
would suggest. 00:33:04
And would we want? 00:33:08
You know, we call this the bid, but it really. 00:33:10
It's the downtown Business Improvement District. Would we want that incorporated, you know? 00:33:14
Yeah, so. 00:33:22
Have a font specific that we use on everything or absolutely yes no. So I would I think that's. 00:33:23
So have standardized ponds, standardized pallets and and the logo that goes on everything. 00:33:31
As. 00:33:38
Yeah. 00:33:42
As your branding, branding, design, and that's, that's what you have cohesive throughout all of your internal materials and 00:33:42
outreach materials. 00:33:47
I. 00:33:54
I think the nice thing about a contest is that it generates some interest to the BID. 00:33:55
Because you know people will be hearing what the contest and. 00:34:02
I don't know. It would be very nice if we could recruit more regular attendees to the. 00:34:06
To the BID and get more interest and I'm just wondering if that would be? 00:34:13
The PR. 00:34:17
Thing. 00:34:20
I don't know. I I made a logo for Restaurant Week that we were going to have at one point. I don't know if we could do like a. 00:34:22
Did anyone? 00:34:32
I'll just send it to you guys. It just is a like a silhouette of. 00:34:34
Of downtown. 00:34:40
Liz, Liz, one of the things that came came to mind here thinking of this, is that the. 00:34:42
Help me remember this here. But when we when we were first starting the arts district you had a document that you created which 00:34:48
was defining your was outlining your. 00:34:53
Ideas for the Pacific Grove Art District. And on the front of that there was like a a bit of a drawing of a a downtown scene and I 00:34:59
think it was your block. Does that ring a bell? 00:35:04
Michaela did that. 00:35:10
Yeah, actually that's that. That comes to mind as a nice sort of icon for for the logo. 00:35:11
Shop fronts, was it that one? 00:35:20
Yes, yeah. 00:35:23
So something along those lines or this one is more bold and logo. Why you know? 00:35:24
So you can't see it, I will send it to you, but it's it's not actually. 00:35:30
A Pacific Grove, but it could be made to be Pacific Grove, and it's it's just silhouettes of buildings and then you know. 00:35:35
Something like that would be nice. And then just have it read right underneath it with a with one of our fonts that we agree on. 00:35:43
Business Improvement District, Pacific Grove. 00:35:51
You just can't have any specific businesses on it. You know, like this one is so great, but it does have, you know, all of the 00:35:55
names of all of our businesses on it. But I, you know, our block is so iconic. Yeah. Yeah. 00:36:03
That kind of thing so. 00:36:10
Like a silhouette kind of thing. 00:36:12
Thank you. 00:36:15
The. 00:36:16
The awnings and things that symbolize shoppers, you know, So yeah. 00:36:17
All artists that we think. 00:36:23
You know. 00:36:25
Something like. 00:36:26
You know, building outlines, silhouettes, line drawings, whatever. But not specific business. 00:36:28
I don't know, so I think we've got a few ideas. It's always good to have these informal discussions with this group. 00:36:35
I feel like we cover more. 00:36:43
Territory So. 00:36:45
The thing is though, is is coming up with a. 00:36:47
A decision, so so do we want to make it a contest or do we want to? 00:36:51
Yeah, do we want? So the options on the table are the contest. 00:36:56
Getting a graphic designer doing an online world. 00:37:02
So. 00:37:06
Well, just to highlight the obvious of the contest is I don't know. 00:37:08
I don't know how much of a hurry we're in for this, but if we do the contest, you know, we get all the benefits that Liz. 00:37:12
Highlighted there of the community participation. The downside is it's going to prolong things. 00:37:19
Several months or however long it takes. 00:37:25
I don't know that we're in any hurry to get it done. 00:37:27
Because I mean, I can't think of any particular. 00:37:32
Urgency that we have on this. 00:37:35
Umm. 00:37:38
You know, to be honest, we don't have an Instagram, we don't have a website. 00:37:39
We just put it at the top of our agenda right now, so. 00:37:42
And I for now, yeah. And that's the whole point was, I think. 00:37:48
Let let this hopefully be the. 00:37:51
First in a sort of turning point where we do consider the outward facing the ID a little bit more and the need to recruit people 00:37:54
and. 00:37:59
Has people have a voice and have, you know, we might. 00:38:04
Reach out to people more and be more relevant to people so. 00:38:07
So yeah, I think eventually would be super important. And needs to express values. It needs to express a, you know, a peppy nice 00:38:12
image of, you know, people that take action and do things and and. 00:38:17
You know. 00:38:24
Positive or positive? So where would we step forwards? Where would we if we did? We did a contest, a local contest? 00:38:26
I mean, I would think like the high school, the Arts Center. 00:38:35
Maybe the Arts Center is a huge one. Yeah, the Arts District has an e-mail list of 300 people. OK, FYI. So those might be the 00:38:40
obvious places to send it out to local graphic designers and businesses. I mean, it might be a feather in their cap to say and our 00:38:47
design was chosen is, you know, OK, winner of. 00:38:54
So it sounds like we're going with the contest idea. 00:39:02
It. 00:39:08
So you want to vote on that? 00:39:09
There a motion is any more to discuss or can we vote? 00:39:13
Well, I'll just, before we vote, I'll just. 00:39:18
Same like past experience with. 00:39:21
You know, anything artistic, it's so subjective and you're never going to get everyone to agree. 00:39:24
I kind of like just sort of the directed Keep it simple. 00:39:29
Here's the concept. Say commerce. We have to keep in mind there's other things besides restaurants and, you know, resale shops. 00:39:34
The contest seems. 00:39:43
Like we're just asking for. 00:39:46
It's definitely going to be less of a professional way to approach it, you know. Typically you would go to a professional firm for 00:39:50
a. 00:39:54
For a logo that just like Jason said it, it. 00:39:58
Connotes A. 00:40:01
To a particular concept. 00:40:04
So I think the contest is great and the engagement with the community is is great. 00:40:08
But it is going to be more difficult for sure and you might not get as professional with a product. 00:40:13
Well, let me, since Matt said that, let me Devil's advocate for a second and if you guys want to want to do it, do a contest I. 00:40:18
Full support of it doesn't matter to me either way, but. 00:40:25
Do we have to agree to use something that we get from the contest if we don't like any of them? There is a There is a line that I 00:40:32
found in other contests that says the Downtown Improvement District reverse reserves the right to modify the winning logo to 00:40:38
better fit the needs of the organization. 00:40:44
There you go. 00:40:50
Maybe. Maybe Matt will take it and send it to a graphic designer at the end of the contest and say retool it. 00:40:51
But but when? Why don't we do that? Why don't we do it and keep that in mind to to make us feel better about moving forward? Is 00:41:00
that, yeah, let's reserve that right and we can retool it as as needed to better serve our needs. But the community. 00:41:07
A rallying benefit that Liz is talking about sound sounds like. 00:41:14
Sounds like it couldn't hurt. 00:41:19
OK. 00:41:22
So maybe you and I, Liz, can brainstorm on some descriptive ideas of. 00:41:24
Kind of ideas for them and kind of put together this. 00:41:31
Sheets that we could, you know, send out to people. Sounds good to me, yeah. 00:41:36
Thanks. Stephanie, assume that was you, you just talking there, you mean like I said a parameters by which the participants. OK, 00:41:42
got it. Yeah. 00:41:46
OK. And should we give ourselves a timeline on that or should we just say that by the next meeting we can have a meeting, we'll 00:41:51
have a proposal so that we can send it out right away? OK. 00:41:57
I think it's pretty. I got a lot done on it. I think we just need to give. 00:42:04
Those. Those. 00:42:09
You know. 00:42:12
Do well, since this is a contest and we want to get participation, should we have prizes? 00:42:14
We'll have to pay. We'll have a monetary price. I think we can. I think Jenny said we could budget, we had budget to do, you know, 00:42:22
a monetary prize for the winning. 00:42:27
Logo. So should we get that decided next meeting? Yeah let's when we have the budget maybe we can look at the numbers and figure 00:42:33
out where that have a budget before we Yeah. And you could always, you know I'm happy to donate a gift card to you know. 00:42:40
Because I have our art kind of materials that might. 00:42:48
Be of interest to them. 00:42:51
OK. 00:42:54
OK, so. 00:42:56
We. 00:42:58
We'll figure that out the next one, yeah. 00:42:59
OK, so do we Do we have a motion to? 00:43:03
Approve the. 00:43:08
Subcommittee on. 00:43:11
Making a proposal for. 00:43:13
Competition for a logo. 00:43:15
We would like to make a motion. 00:43:23
Yes, I would And I'll second. 00:43:26
OK, Matt. 00:43:31
I would vote yes if we're voting. 00:43:35
That's, that's what I meant. Yes. Thank you and Jason. 00:43:38
Yes, I. 00:43:42
Aye, yeah. 00:43:43
OK. So thank you very much for that. OK, new business. 00:43:47
This agenda item number 8. 00:43:52
And ask if. 00:43:55
The board or any attending people have new business. 00:43:58
OK. 00:44:06
Any business updates from Advisory Board members then agenda item 9. 00:44:08
Usually we this is where we ask Jenny. So what's happening with that? Ohh right, Yeah. 00:44:15
So I think from what I've heard, I think the Chase building is going to be. 00:44:21
Going into escrow in the next week or two and the person who's buying it is intending on having apartments upstairs and two retail 00:44:27
spaces down below. 00:44:33
From what I've heard and Bank of America I think started. 00:44:40
Construction. 00:44:43
Into converting that space. 00:44:45
It looks like there might be some demo. 00:44:47
They're soon over at the where? The hotels. The hotel? Yeah. 00:44:49
You know, cordoned off the. 00:44:55
And the sidewalks there, so and I know 520 got their transformer but it was bad, so they were waiting for a new transformer and I 00:44:57
don't know if they got that yet. 00:45:02
Ohh yeah yeah. 00:45:07
Because they haven't been able to do. 00:45:09
You know, I think four of the units are spoken for, but they can't sell them or do anything until they have all their inspections. 00:45:12
The elevator, I mean, if you don't have power, you don't, you can't test anything. So I don't know where that stands. 00:45:19
OK. 00:45:28
Jenny has her finger on the pulse. We can save all these questions the next time, yeah? 00:45:29
I maybe I should? 00:45:34
Just update people on the parts list if you don't already know there was a City Council meeting. 00:45:36
21st of June and there were two options open to the Council and we had favored option B. However they went with option A and so. 00:45:43
But you know, in life you have to be optimistic. So I will tell you what what I know about it I. 00:45:59
The opposition that I. 00:46:08
You know, heard against this was that there's no guaranteed amenities in this plan. There's no guaranteed price. 00:46:11
For your cost, I should say in the plan, and that is a big concern. Obviously everyone wants to make that corner safe. There are 00:46:20
lots of different options, like at least three. 00:46:26
Before even, but they've gone with this one and so I think it was a disappointment that that the others were not given. 00:46:33
Incineration and also that. 00:46:43
There's, you know, we had mentioned that on that corner it is a wind tunnel. Wine glasses blow up. When we were just on the 00:46:47
sidewalk before we had the parklet bill, the wine glasses flew off the table. So people have a week break there it it will be 00:46:55
unusable. The guano problem as you know with all the seagull nesting there is, is a big problem. So that sort of thing and Laurie 00:47:02
McDonald did say that it is just under specified so that we shouldn't panic that maybe. 00:47:10
These things will be allowed. However, maybe they won't be allowed. So maybe we need to keep a little bit of an eye on things and 00:47:17
you know, we just want like for it to be usable, we would. 00:47:24
Like certain amenities. 00:47:31
We don't know about the cost. The mayor did say that some of the costs would be borne by the city, but that also suggests that the 00:47:33
businesses are so are going to be. 00:47:39
You know, having to pay as well. So and we don't know what those costs are. So those were the sort of disappointments for the 00:47:46
business community. 00:47:50
But you know, let's I think also there are no like stakeholders as part of the process. 00:47:55
Umm. 00:48:03
I think Luke Coletti said. Ohh. Some restaurant owners have been approached but did not want to go on record, and I just know of 00:48:05
one who is. 00:48:10
Asked about it and was very upset. 00:48:15
At the suggestion of losing his park list, so he declined to cooperate so. 00:48:18
I don't know. I mean I I we're hoping going forward that. 00:48:23
The restaurant owners on that block will be. 00:48:28
You know. 00:48:32
Part of the process. 00:48:33
Those are those are the insecurities that say that this is to be right now and we hope that. 00:48:35
You know it will. 00:48:41
Being resolved. 00:48:43
So that's there, Or is it memorizing everyone like? 00:48:45
Yikes. 00:48:48
Yeah, any other updates? 00:48:51
OK. 00:48:55
All right. I'm sorry, Liz, I I was just going to make a suggestion. 00:48:56
Regarding this and going forward and. 00:49:01
It's so. 00:49:05
From a public outreach and a, you know, sort of lobbying perspective. 00:49:06
I know the Chamber does a great job, but now with the Arts District, which is a. 00:49:13
You know a A at its core. You know a a business focused district or the HID the BID. 00:49:20
I think it would be who of all of these groups to work in partnership when things like this arise. 00:49:29
Umm. 00:49:38
I pay very, very close attention to a lot of things that go on with with the city and things like that, and obviously not only for 00:49:39
my clients. 00:49:43
But just because I'm generally interested in that and there seems to be a. 00:49:48
Fairly. 00:49:55
Aggressive push. 00:49:56
Thank you. 00:49:59
Umm. 00:50:01
What's the best word to make sure that anything that is going to change? 00:50:02
Pacific Grove. 00:50:10
That might favor the business community the the the brakes are put on. 00:50:12
Umm. 00:50:18
And I think that. 00:50:20
You know the the parklets and stuff like that are are certainly the way that it's gone about with some of the. 00:50:23
Issues that were raised by some of the council members and some of the folks on some of the boards and commissions. 00:50:30
I just would, I would caution our our, our bid and everybody else to be mindful of. 00:50:37
Of working together. 00:50:45
To let our position be known. 00:50:48
Because. 00:50:50
You know, like with parklets, you know it was the the word. Safety was used the word. 00:50:52
Fairness was used and. 00:50:57
But I also know that when the issues about the wildlife are being brought up. 00:51:01
Anything that is dealing with wildlife in Pacific Grove. 00:51:08
Is going to have to now go through a couple of additional committees. 00:51:12
To get approval. 00:51:16
With regards to anything, so Liz, your comment about making sure that the parklets are covered. 00:51:18
If it involves wildlife, the new wildlife subcommittee is you know you, you're going to have to move things through that and so. 00:51:26
Again, I I don't want to be alarmist, but I just wanted to to put that out there. 00:51:35
And and the council will listen to. 00:51:40
The larger voices, the more The more voices, the better for. 00:51:43
Things that benefit the business district to be heard and so I just I wanted to put that out there and by the way I love wildlife 00:51:49
and. 00:51:53
I don't want you to think that I'm, I'm against it or anything like that, but it's getting harder and harder to be able to. 00:51:57
Simply do business. 00:52:04
With some of the new rules and regulations that have been put in place. 00:52:07
Yeah, good. Good point, Steven. Zach, let me say one more thing and we're running out of time here, but. 00:52:11
I was going to. 00:52:18
Right. I received an e-mail from Bill about about that meeting, Bill Peak, and was going to respond to them with the suggestion of 00:52:20
how moving forward. 00:52:24
This shouldn't the the Planning Commission shouldn't be moving forward without input from the from the stakeholders. And you're 00:52:30
right there is there's a lot of. 00:52:34
While we're all on the same page, the chambers on the same page, we're on the same page. Ours just tries on the same page, even 00:52:39
get the EDC is on the same page. So yeah, having having a response instead of maybe just coming from me with that suggestion. 00:52:45
Of should come from all of us. I'm happy to draft an e-mail and get with everybody separately so we could all put our names on the 00:52:52
same kind of letter going to Bill and be a unified front of. 00:52:57
You know, telling them to. You know, be aware of of what all of these pro business, downtown, pro business entities are are 00:53:03
pushing for here. Stakeholders should be involved moving forward. 00:53:09
My take away from that is that a super group of business interests in town. 00:53:18
Should. 00:53:26
Well, could be a bonus in lobbying. 00:53:27
Our interests with the City Council, so I prefer Justice League, but OK, supergroup is fine. 00:53:32
Well, just yeah, just to say I I like that idea. 00:53:42
The thing is that every single group was for option. 00:53:47
B Yeah, except the HID who was not consulted. So I'm not sure that it made a huge difference, but I I think it's important. I 00:53:50
always think it's important to have organizing. 00:53:56
You know and I. 00:54:03
I I let my customers know. I said if you want to have a voice, please say, you know, please talk to the council and whatever, 00:54:04
whatever. I I think organising is always a good thing because that's how democracies work. We want people to express themselves 00:54:10
and especially stakeholders and interested people. I hope they don't leave us. 00:54:16
Happy I got a Jet. I know where I'll I'm happy to take lead on drafting that letter. I'll run it by as many of you as I can. 00:54:23
Moving forward, but I was planning on responding to Bill Peak anyway. On on on his e-mail to me on it. He's had some some 00:54:30
sympathies to the letter that I wrote to him leading up to it, so that's how we'll follow up. 00:54:36
OK. And I mean I had just have so much to say on, I mean don't get me on the top topical park list, but Steve I mean all the 00:54:43
options are safe by the way all the options. So I, I, you know. 00:54:48
There, that's a whole. That's a very easy discussion. Like wildlife, I don't think covering hurts wildlife, just covering the part 00:54:54
of it, that's all, you know, it's like. 00:54:59
You know, anyway. 00:55:04
No, no, you're absolutely right. And I agree. I agree with that 100%, But I I know for a fact on some other projects. 00:55:07
That anything that affects. 00:55:15
That is going to be brought up by some council members and certainly by the BNRC. 00:55:18
As everything now is being looked through, the lens of how does it affect wildlife? 00:55:25
And it's and again, like I said, I I love wildlife. But that's what's that's that's the what is being used to slow everything. 00:55:32
OK. All right. Well, all great stuff. This will all go on the next agenda so that we can actually have some time to talk about it, 00:55:41
because now we don't. So thank you, everybody. And we're adjourning the meeting at 9:31. 00:55:47
Yeah. 00:55:55
OK. Cheers. Have a good day. Thanks. 00:55:57

Thanks. 00:55:57
